roan 4
hi all ive rooted some pics out again at the moment once a year an event in the midlands of ireland is organised for purebred working deerhounds the idea being to encourage people to get out with there hounds and to allow people to aim to get the dogs fit and working in the run up to these meets we hope to expand this and similar meets in the coming year so a few words about the hunt itself we aim to pick out a variety of covers and these are hunted generally with foxhounds people are positioned outside at various points with a deerhound on slip one dog is slipped per fox unless a dog is just getting going ie first fox in which case it will be slipped with an experienced dog at no point are any gaps blocked and the fair law is applicable this is however a form of pest control as we are deep in sheep country and the majority of landowners for one reason or another prefer to allow us in than guns Quote Link to post
roan 4
this is an experienced dog and his offspring a bitch showing her how its done she showed good promise the event is generally ran around december january to avail of the low growth this year the growth was still quite thick due to the very mild winter we got here in ireland all pictures are taken in the south of ireland on ground with full permission Edited July 2, 2008 by roan Quote Link to post

roan 4
cheers ya its a good way of getting people together with the dogs and its well controlled if theres a large number of people but the dogs myself shanehound and one or two others not on the site have are expected to do everything the big dog in the first photo and later on the fox regularily will hunt up and catch fox and this is a great spectacle to see this is one way to get people together with the hounds and is a good form of pest control as well as a test for the dogs Edited July 2, 2008 by roan Quote Link to post
