sammy/c 3
Who's to say Smithy didn't kill a badger, maybe a weak one or so.How would a badger have died at a trials? Six minutes ???? As for Middletons terriers? Well after reading an article about Seamus Erwin a couple of years ago it might be true. According to the article all of us in Ireland have Seamus to thank for our great terriers. Don't his terriers come down from Mr. Middletons? So maybe it's true. LOL that article was it a black dog? couple of friends did a good bit of terrier work with him, when the money was on [fox skins] years back. more than once they dug heavy stuff dead, with a black dog.pal said dog had a knack up the side and locked on the throat took abit of stick though. Neil Cooney. 1
Don't know Sammy, I was refering to an article written about Mr. Erwin that openly stated that if you owned working terriers in Ireland they (most surely) went back to the terriers of Seamus Erwin and so the dogs of Middleton. I know a lot of serious terrier men in Ireland but don't know of any with anything to do with his terriers. Or would want to. I know they win some conformation shows though. Quote Link to post
sooty92 105
Intresting topic? well i honestly dont believe that ,one terrier to ground, face to face ,with his ultimate adversery,in front of him could complete such a task?? But in the past i have dug a few, with different terriers ,where they have bottled a couple of badgers up,and done it so hard that the pig in front has suffercated, and had one dog do this same thing to a badger,(badger on its own not with one in front)rammed it so tight in hard soil.it couldnt turn ,then suffercated, but on none of thease occasions would i say the dog has killed it? BUT SUPPOSE IF SOME INEXPERIENCED OR NIEVE,PERSON, WAS TO SEE SUCH A THING,THEN I SUPPOSE WITH THE HELP OF SOME'''CHINESE WHISPERS'''THEN WELL?? IF THE BIBLES ANYTHING TO GO BY''MILLIONS BELEIVE THAT SHITE'' YOURS IN SPORT: Quote Link to post
higgins 75
The only real conclusive evidence of a terrier killing a badger is by autopsy, this could rule out shock/heart attack and prove that asphyxiation caused by a terrier gripping the brock's throat did indeed cause it to die through lack of oxygen, also rule out other facts such as an infirm or very young badger!I remember lots of dead badgers being dug but most of them hardly had marks on them which you could say were the cause of death as tough as badgers are,a dog would have to have exceptional strength to physically kill a badger and most terriers are smaller than the badger, also badgers are built like tanks,no for me a healthy badger is something that can withstand any terrier,i sometimes wonder if god had deliberately placed this beast on earth simply for us to test out the gameness in our terriers?
