I've heard of dogs that have done it, I Know a dog called Chester (pure border) that was close a good few times and a dog called Slim (pattxlakie) that done it, these were as you say back in the day when it was all legal.

I would expect most had smothered,i know a fella who dug them years back when it was legal who dug at least 2 that had died, but on one of the digs the dog was unconcious too but was revived, the badger was dead.Plenty of terriers suffocate while going about their job,so its not unlikely that a few badgers would have suffered the same fate.

lots of storys but have still to meet someone in person who has wittness this seen plenty dug in my youth but never seen one killed single handed seen them bettered by a dog but never killed outright even seen some of the big dogs give them some stick but still not kill one i would say it would take something special or an old or infirm pig in a bad way

EErrmm.... did the dog kill the badger....or.... did the badger die of shock/fright/heart attack/tb ??

i sway toward the latter....

the vast majority of people on this site id say were not digging pre 1973,alot including myself were not even born, so even if there are guys on here who perhaps might have wittnessed this, well they couldnt really talk about it on an open forum could they!! but im pretty sure it has happened! obviously not on a regular basis .but any animal can be killed , if they have their windpipe closed off by strangulation, if brock got himself stuck and a strong powerfull terrier was able to get the right hold this is deffinatly possiable,IMHO

a friend of my dads told me how he dug one a long time ago with one of his terriers. all went well as he said, only when he got in did he find his terrier

with a dead one. like he said ,dont know what went wrong or what happend, but dog had hold and he was fine.

couldent say his dog killed it,but couldent say he didnt one of them things he said. but if i nagged him more he would have said a terrier couldent kill one im sure.

IN ALL THE YEARS I HAVE BEEN DIGGING I HAVE DUG TWICE TO TWO DIFFERENT DOGS WHO HAD THERE GAME / BADGER KILLED, IN MY OPINION I WOULD SAY THERE WERE OLD SICK BADGERS, OR THERE WERE VICTIMS OF A HIT AND RUN OR VICTIMS OF BEEN SHOT A FEW DAYS BEFORE I DUG THEM( WHEN IT WAS LEGAL). ANY ONE THAT SAYS HE HAS A TERRIER THAT KILLS BADGERS IN GROUND ARE ONE OF TWO THINGS . DAY DREAMERS/ OR RETARDS. OR PERHAPS HE IS BOTH !!

cheers p***y mate, good info.i personally not being old enough to have been digging at the time when it was allowed still think it would be too much for a terrier to kill such a formidable apoinent, thanks for the input lads all the best.
