Chalk-stream trout........................

Recommended Posts

I am not exactly a dry-fly purist,I have been known to dabble in other methods now and again, baits, spinners etc,but I just rang up a chalk-stream fishery in Hampshire,dry-fly only, very well spoken guy, surprised it wasnt a premium-rate line and cost me a tenner just to chat with him :icon_eek: £295 a DAY?F***ing hell,I could buy a beat for that, how do they justify that price?Thats a bigger p**s-take than fishing at night and leaving a quid surely,at least I will have the decency to wear a mask when I fish the place, they rob people bare-faced :icon_eek:

Your right mate, those fish MUST be gold plated at that price :victory: I was flabbergasted,I was lost for words mate,I just couldnt work out how a wander down the banks with rod in hand could cost £295,for that I would expect to take home every fish on a 2 mile stretch :icon_eek:

Two mile stretch you say...thats a lot of water...erm.... i mean riverbank to walk. Whip finish the end of your detector, spot of epoxy on the handle, couple of turns of red legged partridge hackle and you WILL fit in with Major Hawton-Fawkes and his chums. :icon_redface:

My only experiences of chalk stream fishing is books and TV. The chalk streams always looked beautifully maintained and managed. The fish always look pristine and yes I'd say they blank as often as any other water.

Ghillies/bailiffes ,labour and maintenance has a price.

I have visited and fished on a few VERY expensive chalk-streams Neil, never quite at the £295 ceiling however, but there are two of us fishing it,that leaves no change almost out of £600 :icon_eek: Slightly steep mate :icon_eek: Your right though, such waters are always top class venues to fish, well manicured banks etc, perfect for entering the waters to wade,a credit to their riparian owners, but I have never ONCE blanked at such a place :victory: I have just gone through my small-change jar and rifled through the kids piggy-banks,I think I have just enough for a session,I will tell you the results at a later date :victory:

how much :icon_eek: :icon_eek: even an hours fishing is over 12 quid then! How many fish are they expecting you to have for that price M?

I didnt quite catch the bag limit Maty, sounded like 4 but could just as easily have been 40 or even 400 I will just have to find out when I get on the venue,if theres anyone around at 2am I will ask :victory:

£2.95?Could have been I suppose,he did have a nasal"I used to go to Eton" type twang, thats a LOT better than what I thought he said, wow,I can afford to invite a couple of mates onto the water for that price :victory: You have to do your research mate, always good to know the home ground of the other team, know how they play etc, besides,if someone things your going to pay them £295 for a days fishing its easy to milk them for info, surprised he didnt tell me the colour of his wifes knickers for that price :hmm: Might have if I had asked :D

Joe and I have just bought a new rod, cant wait to test this baby out,I was gazumped on a drysuit last night on e-bay,I was gutted, what kind of f***ing anorak sits on the bay till 11pm at night waiting to outbid me on a drysuit???Moronic isnt it?I was looking forward to talcum-powdering myself down and slipping into it,Just had to buy chest-waders today instead,I hope his suit springs a leak,I dont hope he drowns or anything but I do hope he gets a soaking,I would have put it to better use than he would, its cold wading at night spending an extended period of time in water :(

John Wilson you mean Keg?That guy follows us around like a bad smell,he has been on TV a few times on one of our favourite fisheries,I do hope we dont bump into him or his cohorts when I am up to my neck in water :D

can see the start of another good thread coming this time when you leave payment a good idea would be to leave a note explaining the size and number of fish taken and that way the fishierys manager will know what he needs to restock

I couldnt say with certainty Steve,I always imagined LG with either a rich, deep, almost hypnotic vocalisation, reminiscent of a prison Psychiatrist, you know the one you have sessions with just to make sure you really are ready to be rehabilitated?Or a mockney-jamie-oliver cheeky chappy type spiel, like when he rabbits on about Sainsburies on TV,not that I am a linguist or Dialect-snob or anything, but however he speaks I do know that sometimes old LG has a high pitched resonance because by his own admittance he was blown-off by a boating chappy in brighton  And we have all seen the "sailors" in brighton havent we

Hmmnnnn, well KD,I would leave an itemised tally of EXACTLY what we caught, but maybe its not such a good idea,I know that the water and its surroundings are pristine mate, wouldnt want to be accused of littering right?Besides,if people found out we might'nt get a second invite, forewarned is forearmed and all that
