Ok, good debate, but still no reason on why this is happening, obviously we dont know, and hey, we are not vets. It is getting serious now tho, because i have now lost 5 ferrets in 3 days! and at 5weeks old nearlt, it shouldnt be happening.....??

maybe now is the time to consult a vet?

are they still with mum?

what does mum eat? and what are the kits eating

have you checked her nips to see if she is ok, she could have mastitis and not be feeding correctly

I've been doing a little research on this as we had some slow developement this spring... i found this excerpt though i dont know if its a Medical Finding or just an experienced second hand knowledge....

i agree that if there is something amiss a visit to the vet or at the very least seperating the remaining kits to be nourished on with a calcium/phospherous boost or kibble (which will contain these things) would be in order... My thoughts are perhaps they just AREN'T getting the full nutrients they require in their current diet..

good Luck!!

I reckon a one eyed ferret would be fine underground ,every time we put them to ground they could lose a eye but if they lost both eyes i think it would be retirement time and see how they faired being blind .

Good point :) The condition mentioned in the link is discussed in Fox JG, Biology and diseases of the ferret. His discussion is substantiated by reference to a published scientific study

isnt it just a gammy eye ? give it a clean and see what the score is , must admit i was quite surprised that i only ended up with 4 kits out of 11 . who cares tho seeings this board alone had over 400 kits this year , i bet if you add up the deaths they dont quite match :)
