one eyed ferrets

Recommended Posts

hold on and step back i am going to agree with JOJOAMOJO on this one ... a ferret has very poor eye site anyway and one eye missing is nothing to worry about as far as hunting ability goes ... the ferret needs a good nose to find its quarry in a large and deep warren it needs to be mobile to be able hunt all day in warrens that have up to three layers and a hundred holes and it needs a decent set of teeth and good jaws to be efficient at its job of dispatching battled up rabbits when needed ... it cant see underground anyway so what difference would one two or no eyes make ??? ..........

on a similar vein there is a guy that comes on here now and again who is an out and out terrierman that owns a terrier bitch that is completely blind .... i would put money on that bitch against ANY terrier when it comes down to working ability ............

ask the vet if no luck id put it out of its misery if it effect the ferret

ffs, why does everyone suggest killing everything?

1 eye makes no difference

too true, Ive got something with only one eye, and it works great :whistling:

What with Kay making jokes about your 'chopper', and now you're at it, when are you going to rename this section 'Carry on Ferreting?'

I don't think having one eye will harm a ferret in the slightest. You may get a few more nips, if it don't see your hand coming though.

my one eyed beast enjoys being taken by surprise by my or anybody elses hand :whistling:

ok , ive been thinking about this .

a ferret with one eye as a pet mmmmm ok i suppose

but a working ferret ? nope i wouldnt only because what happens if a rabbit kicks it in the face and it loses it's good one ? happened to me the season just gone but he was lucky he didnt lose it .

i think these one eyed wonders need to be PTS if not going to pet homes ( and be snipped /spayed)

just a thought

if one of my workers lost its sight i would keep it and still work it as i said in an earlyer post ferrets have shit eyesight anyway and dont need vision underground .........

what for ? they live in a cage where they know where everything is .... and i guarantee you that they know where their food is by scent before they do by sight .... sight is the least most important sense needed for working unerground in the pitch blackness ... FACT.

I have had 2 ferrets in the past that had one eye one a large hob which i found when out ferreting one day that had damage already to its eye , i also owned a small jill that took a kick from a rabbit when out working she lost the eye, the hob ended up a great worker and the jill has been one of the best ferrets ive ever owned . like some of the lads said clean the eye well for a few days you should know better when its clear and you can have a good look at it but dont let a one eyed ferret put you off mate they are no different than those with both eyes . hope all goes well no matter what :good:
