one eyed ferrets

Hi i have lost 2 of my ferret kits over the week end, they are now 4week old. That isnt the problem as they obviously werent as strong as the other, and i found it a bit unusual not lose any ferrets at all out of a litter of 12..

 

The problem is 2 of my kits, have a scab where one of there eyes should be!!!??? Anybody seen this before, or any clues as to why this has happened?

 

As i dont really want working ferrets with 1 eye. Will they clear and have 2 or what . cheers Russ

shouldnt have a scab , try soaking it . im having the same problem with my 'chatteris fen type' ferrets this year as they may have hind end probs .

Well do they actually see much underground anyway i fail to understand why a ferret with one normal eye would be any less a worker than one with two

if it isnt seeing proper sell it to a pet family that feel sorry for it.

any runts in a litter, I tend to remove daily and give an extra feed too before popping back,

as suggested, try bathing the eye with some luke warm water

My old hob can only see out of one eye worked great.Having a fert who is partially blind aint really a big deal.N

What with Kay making jokes about your 'chopper', and now you're at it, when are you going to rename this section 'Carry on Ferreting?'

 

I don't think having one eye will harm a ferret in the slightest. You may get a few more nips, if it don't see your hand coming though.
