FJager 0
Don't know anything about that particular breed, but I am waiting on a GSP pup at the moment for the same job, the GWP is another sure performer in the deer game. Quote Link to post

on-point 0
bavarian mountain blood hounds are the future, i only have limited experience with them (a week with a mate in germany doing helping with a culling opperation on 3 estates) but they were brilliant. the ones i saw worked from 7 till 5 for 5 days out of 6, they pointed, marked, chased and pulled deer down when directed. the sence of smell is second to non: i saw one mark out the exact line in a wounded red deer the day after it was hit, take that line 7-800 yards, put up the hind, chase it for a hundred yards, pull it down and keep it pinned/ at bay until we got there to dispatch it . incredible. i was warned though that they can be buggers as they will pick up the wind of a bitch on heat a decent few miles away and be off. from that week, if i was in the possition to get another dog, and thought i would have enough stalking to warrant it - it woul dbe a bavarian mountain bloodhound anyday....sadly i'm not. on-point Quote Link to post

Thanks what exactly do you want the dog to do? they are bred for working after the shot, i.e. trailing wounded game. Quote Link to post
Pops 19
please explain what a deer dog does for you over there. here they push them out of the nasty thick cover and the hunter tries to position himself in front of the race for a shot. we use mostly foxhounds, beagles and their mixes for this.
