tonetone 0
hello all, i have just bought a reloading kit and a manual. i have been reading through all the charts etc and have yet to purchase powder and bullets. it seems to mention a few different powder-bullet recipies. but i was wondering if any of you experienced chaps know what my CZ varmint .223 rem would like? my quarry will be corvids/ big gulls/ hares etc 100-200yds. i dont think i need big stopping power or amazing velocity just a recipie that is going to help my accuracy. if any of you could recomend a powder type and a bullet type/weight it would be much appreciated. up till now i have been using 55gr federal soft nose at £97 per 100 cheers happy huntin tone Quote Link to post
markbivvy 6
whats best in mine might not be so good in yours. vitt 133,and 50 grn blitzkings is what i use in the 223, as for the make up of the ammo your gun will let you know what it likes. get a reloading manual and start from the begining. ColinF 2
Benchmark is also a very good powder with the 223. Quote Link to post
DaveK 0
I'm with Claude Bivvy. Viht n-133 but with 55gn v-max. Load it up with 22gn and see if it works for you. Quote Link to post
peashooter 0
you will find a lot of good powders and lods out there, I use VIHT n120 & 50gn v-max & I can cloverleaf 3 of them at 100yds in an enclosed range with 21.5grn's but put that up to 22grn's and it opens out to 1" so you will havce to try for your self. all I will say is when you find a load stick with it buy bulk of the supplies because as long as you dont put them together you can hold lots more bullets, power & cases than you have on your ticket it is not until you actually put them together and make a round up that it counts in your allowence. Capreolus 0
What is the twist rate on your barrel? I have a 1:9 twist Savage that works really well with 69gr Sierra Matchkings and varget. (The crows don't seem to notice that they are a non-expanding head) Quote Link to post
