I recently was reading about the Magyar Agar. A native coursing hound of Hungary. I have been totally overwhelmed with the beauty of this country. It has to be the best place on Earth for anyone who enjoys hunting with sighthounds. I dont know much about Magyar or its dogs, but what little I have read makes me crave more to learn about it. I met a hungarian today. He was a quiet fellow and humbly agreed with me that Magyar is a beautifull place. Surely it isnt expensive for us to visit this country? Has anyone on here been there? What was it like. I couldnt care less about the cities, just the rural countryside.

Here is a few images to wet your appetite.

A few years back I was in the country side there for a couple weeks. Nice weather - beer costs 80 cents - also the women are beautiful.

But to tell you the truth I was struck by the absence of wild life. Maybe it was just the area i was in, although it was very rural were i was.

Yep, been there three or four times. Can only admit most of my experience is of Budapest. Nice people in the most part. Down around Lake Balaton is beautiful  Can't be of too much help as I was mostly otherwise engaged while there :icon_redface::whistling:

Go have a look, Malev (hungarian airline owned by Russians now  ) fly from Dublin I believe, as do other airlines. The language will be your biggest hurdle, though a lot will speak English but I'm not sure about the countryside.

Good good find that website Cuagus.... I will have a hungarian looking at it and telling me what is on...I thought that coursing was illegal in most eastern european states but I do not have real good sources and I don't know what law they had before and during communism. The north borders Ukrain where it is legal and they have some humongous flat planes with hares and a sighthound tradition...if I get some translated I'll report in short what I find...

I was over there in 1982,it is a beautiful country, and, the people are magnificent, especially the young women(but, unfortunately they don't age very well.....trust me)I was in a small village calle Szentendre, and, another village just outside Budapest called Leányfalu, there is a very big hunting fraternity in Hungary, and,a lot of people take hunting holidays over there.I think I am right in saying that at the moment the exchange rate is fantastic(in our favour)and,if it could be better than when I went there you just cannot spend your money, unless of course you want to be eating and drinking English food and beer while you are there, and then you will be shafted big time.I can remember buying a meal for 9 people while I was there, beer included and having change out of £8.00...........A really beautiful place with beautiful people that still like the English................Martin.

No not been there yet, but considering the beast that I live with, I just may pay it a visit. :whistling::whistling:

Beautifull women :yes::yes: On my way :D

see you at the beach

You'll have a job it's landlocked.

It is landlocked, but,as someone said,if you go to Lake Balaton you just as well be at the seaside mate,it is(I believe)the second largest expanse of fresh water in the world....it is an amazing place, they do(or did)have a real bad problem with mosquito's there though, and, helicopters used to fly around the beaches at night spraying DDT,and,in the morning they would have to sweep up all of the dead ones, and I mean piles and piles of them.
