lucky 578
well i've just stepped up the exercise for the lurchers now the seasons getting a little nearer, they've had it pretty easy up until now with only long walks and plenty of free running being there only form of excercise. now there getting 3 mile of steady jogging behind the quad (i dont need the exercise lol) every evening when its a bit cooler, then in another month i'll give one of them the night away from the jogging and replace it with a nights lamping twice a week on the rabbits just too sharpen them up with the running, twisting and turning etc. so when the time comes to do some proper work there should be no excuses..... well thats what i'll be doing so what will everyone else be doing to get there dogs to there peak ? tommy.c 859
i was thinking the same thing lucky,, at the minute im taking my two lurchers for there normal walk round my local park then into the graveyard were they chase a couple of rabbits, witch i know im taking a big risk of them getting injured but when there running the rabbits threw the graves they are twisting and turning and i personaly think this is good exersise for them, and i can see my 1 year old colie x grey getting keaner, but i think im going to start to do a lot of road walking with them about a month before the season starts hopefully that will get them fit enough!! never mind the lurcher fitness my we legs are killing me lol.... but its worth it.. all the best tommy.c... Guest lurcherboy2008
this time of year in the late evenings or early morning or sometimes both if its cool enough i go for a little stroll on the push bike with my lurcher running behind me in on tar mark riding the bike its alongside the river i stop every few mins see if she wants a drink theres also a few hills there i go a bit faster down the hills she starts spriniting then that keeps her nails down pretty good ill also be lamping her 2ce a week now hopefully get her back sharp on the turns etc, shes a little heavyer now than she is in the winter but ill soon burn that off when the weather cools more shell be behind the bike going alot faster and shell be alot fitter and ready to take down anything in her way oh forgot to mention, i sometimes take all 4 out 2 terriers/2 lurcher the 1 lurcher is old now so dont take her behind the bike while im spinning the local river their hunting a few rats or mink on the banks they dont mind a nice swim either which is nice to have in this weather Quote Link to post
