C3PO 118
Today had been quite quiet on the rat front -- despite there being a fair amount of corn out to feed the pheasants which visit the garden on a twice daily basis. That is until this evening. In the kitchen I looked towards the small bush from which rats have been using as cover for raids on the grain (this bush hosts a hole going into a rat run). I noticed some rustling and spotted the familiar eyes of a rat between two leaves. I went upstairs and took position with the HW100K T from my favoured "sniping" position ... 8 yards away with gun and scope zeroed to said distance. Lately the rats have become more circumspect; no doubt due to their numbers being efficiently decimated by the Weihrauch. The rifle is whisper quiet, beautifully accurate and being a Karbine is great for hunting. I waited for about 15 minutes and the rat reappeared -- its head peering out towards the lawn area where the grain is placed. Usually at this point the rat decides to make a dash for the food, grab a bit and dash back to cover. Shooting the rat on the run is a bit hit and miss with the only opportunity being the three second pause while it grabs the grain. So at this point I decided the shot had to be taken as it peered out. It made one small movement forward by two inches which I deemed to be its last move before making the dash. A .177 pellet of the Weihrauch FT Special variety was launched and struck dead centre on the top of the forehead, dropping the rat instantly. When I went out to retrieve it I was surprised that it was even larger than the last "largest" one I had taken. Here it is: Quote Link to post
