mattydski 560
Thought I would put an investigative post on how we as Ferret owners, can help out finances in times of hardship. Just recently i've been thinking about the payback in a new dog. The collie's getting on a bit now and the Westie is 12years old and still untrainable. So I shortlisted a few breads, Spaniel, another collie, lab etc. But then quick flick through the 'For sale ads' revealed that it was out the question due to finances. Then an inspiration, what about making better use of an existing resource???? So.... Does it have the fear factor for guard dog duty? Walking to heal went quite well... I can see i'll need to lower the step on the landy for shoot days. He certainly made himself at home with the dogs facilities. I really should have entitled it a mooch with the ferret, but he behaves like a bloody dog on the lead. In fact he's actualy better on the lead than the wife's terrier. Since i had an escapee from the pen, he goes for a walk everday until I can build a new one. I have to say its very theraputic for us both. The collies not to happy though, think he's feeling a bit insecure... Now if i can just get him to follow up wounded deer????? Matt Quote Link to post

sue 1
i had a huge sandy hob you could walk him like a dog ,it gets you plenty of stares and frightened pet dog owners think your ferret is going to kill their dog Quote Link to post
Lilyferret 0
Although he's got a cute face, I'm quite sure he'd have the fear factor for guard duty for some....Never forget a workman we had here a couple of years ago. Asked me about the ferrets, so I said I'd get one for him to have a look at. He said "no no, it's OK I haven't got time". I tell you, I've never seen a man move so fast out the door Quote Link to post

mattydski 560
:clapper: do you work him? if so he could go all day with out a break. ( being fit that is ) He is worked, not heavily, maybe 1-2 twice a week during the season. But only short sessions. He is a pretty good worker, given his age. Last year was his first season. We are spending a lot of time with him recently, as he and his brother dug out of the playpen, and i have yet to recover his brother. We are still hopeful, in the mean time, we have one spoilt ferret!!! Matt Quote Link to post
