i'd say with a terrier he's using one so he dig's down straight to it proberly he has a terrier that stay's till dug to, were as with the ferret's if you just net the hole's job done if the ferret do get hold of one and stay eating it you can alway's smoke them out alot faster than digging to them in my opion

 

i prefere using smaller ferret's that way when they do grip the rabbit the rabit can still squeeze past and most of the time will surface with the ferret still clung on

i aren't saying smoke the rabbit's out i have never heard of anyone doing that all i'm saying on the odd occassion the ferret grip's one and stay's you can alway's smoke it out that's the way i have alway's seen it done

There is no point using one in the hedges around my place. I always went out with a liner hob with my grandad but now just find it easier to sit and wait

so, you think it's neccessary to have a terrier LRF, yet are asking if a ferret one is needed, does that mean you dont value ferrets as much

 

They weren't considered so for thousands of years, mate. Now most of the people on this place would shit their pants with fear at the prospect of doing it how it was always done.

I have never smoked a ferret out but I have always thought maybe the ferret may be stuck in a stop end and unable to get out (rabbit blocking it) and the smoke might kill a ferret. I am not sure about this one but thats how I see it

take a few page's of the the sun, anything if it smoke's it will work you can get the smoker's from your gun shop i don't mean a rat attack or chainsaw nowt like that

LOl i remember when i 1st started ferretin was a bout 13 and i tried smoking a hob out.The only thing that got smoked out was me Its the joys of being young.You listen to all the stories of hunting from some of the dubiost of charachters.I can still remember being told to blow smoke in there face or pinging their nose before entering a burrow."IT MAKES THEM MAD YOU SEE". I really miss my childhood at times.It was so much easier back then

Well when i was 13 common sense was a bit sparse.However smoking ferrets out of a burrow with pages of the sun sounds a really responsible thing to do and clearly full of common sense.

I just dont see why smoking helps? Wouldnt it scare the rabbits on to another burry anyway and then if you are ferreting a nice open set then you will have lost it due to a bit of laziness

Say i come to pick you up for a bit of hunting.And lets say you slept in.So i proceed to push the sun newspaper through your letter box in the attempt to smoke you out.Smoke kills mate thats a common fact.I am no vet or owt but im guessing it wouldnt take a lot.Really cant be good for a small animal like a fert.
