bluecollar 104
I am new to Ferrets and was wondering if a locater is necessary? C.J. Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
They weren't considered so for thousands of years, mate. Now most of the people on this place would shit their pants with fear at the prospect of doing it how it was always done. The rot started to set in about twenty years or so back. Now, if ye not into wandering all over the burys, swinging ye little box around like some gorilla who's lost his banana, they sneer at ye like ye some kind of f*cking idiot. How ironic's that? IanB 0
Bluecollar if you value your ferrets and intend to work them I'd say there a must have, not only do they help you keep a track of them within deep undergrowth and warrens, preventing loss, they also help if a ferret kills in with a rabbit or lays up with one, this can save a lot of time, preventing you from waiting around, the last thing you want is to be hung around a warren for hours waiting... I wouldn't leave the house without one, they help you move from one warren to the next in no time, I have a strong hob who kills in 9 out of 10 times if he can, without a locator I'd be hung around, the time saved soon mounts up and so do the bunnies that would be wasted otherwise from kill ins, I've had 5's from stop ends before... So weight it up.....they save time, save lost ferrets, and help you recover rabbits that have been killed in... Definitely worth it if you value your ferrets and sport, show me a rabbiter with any sense who doesn't use one... Get one bought! Quote Link to post

Guest bigredbusa
no you dont need one but you could have a long wait if the fert kills below , i think stubby is testing a cheaper one soon Quote Link to post
stubby 175
I am new to Ferrets and was wondering if a locater is necessary? C.J. so, you think it's neccessary to have a terrier LRF, yet are asking if a ferret one is needed, does that mean you dont value ferrets as much They weren't considered so for thousands of years, mate. Guest Magwitch
Personally I wouldn't put a ferret to ground without one I value their worth too much, and the ground I ferret digging is normally only 2ft max, also I respect the humble rabbit enough to recover the dead and injured below. scothunter 12,609
I have never owned a locator and never lost a ferret.I will admit that im thinking about buying one. However i see a lot of feedback on here saying that the mk3 is difficult to get used to.So im in two minds now.As for if i value my ferts get one.Well i do value my ferts thats why i have waited at a burrow for a good few hours to get my worker back on the odd time they lie up.If i honestly thought that i would have no probs with the locator and could work it easy then i would get one tomorrow. Its just that i have a drawer full of these new gadgets that are supposed to make life easier.Maybe its just me but technology and me just dont seem to get on lol. gnipper 6,523
Get one mate it'll save you hours of time and loads of missed rabbits that you wouldn't know about. I got 8 from a stop end the other week. Your ferret might not be one for coming away either so you'll waste a full day near enough waiting. You might get some high and mighty old dinosaurs dismissing their use but what they did in the olden days and now 20 years on since they last ferreted a rabbit are a world apart, locators are as essential in ferret work as terrier work. So what would you recommend i am in the dark with these locators.Im reading a lot of stuff about high pitched noise and stuff.I am not into that! Others say they are hard to work out.I have never witnessed one been used so i dont know if this true or its just a dafty working it. Quote Link to post
