Posting Hunting Pictures

Recommended Posts

Dear all I would like to know the general consensus on posting hunting pictures on this forum as certain replies to post's have got me thinking. This is the first £$%^&*()_+ I have actually posted pictures on as the other forums I have been a member of I have simply replied in written format. I do know certain members are not keen on the idea of posting pictures as it could lead to more "ammunition" for the "Antis" which is a fair comment, but as long as all the pictures only show "legal" airgun quarry that do not display any signs of suffering to the animals that have been dispatched because they are considered to be a "pest" surely this is acceptable. Secondly other members state that they do not need to show pictures of quarry/game they have shot to "prove" themselves which again is entirely acceptable as "each to their own" and is certanly not a problem in my eyes but I would like to know everyone's feeling on the subject. My personal opinion and I state "personal" is that as this is a hunting forum for like minded people who enjoy the sport and as long as individual post's display the words "hunting photos" or similar identifying the post to contain images will this be a problem because at the end of the day you don't have to look do you?? so lets hear what you've got to say on the subject.

Many thanks

Coney.

well, we are all hunting men ( and some girls ) and i dont think that a pic of blood or something like that is going to get you kicked off .

unless it is somerhting like your dog ragging a hare of fox.

I agree coney its a hunting forum the majority of us on here hunt. Its good to read about and also see the results of other peoples hunts. (stops cyber hunters just making things up). Its a legall activity so I cant see how some photos could do the sport any harm, Plus i notice that you always put "pictures of dead quarry" Or something along those lines in your topic descriptions, So if someone is sensative then atleast you have provided a warning to them!!!

I like the pictures. I can't get out much at the moment, but I still like to keep up with other people getting out & doing a bit. If you can't handle the photo's of cleanly despatched quarry, you shouldn't be on this site. :big_boss: As long as the photo's are of legal quarry, despatched in the appropriate way, there's no need to worry.

I would agree with this. I think the important words are highlighted above

I too enjoy other peoples photos. i prefer them more than words. its great to actually see what other people have shot or done. why shouldn't we send in the acational photo every so often. and to be perfectly honest i could not care what the antis think as long as pictures are legal and do no contain unappropriate images i see no problem.

i do agree with coney for asking this question because it is useful to find out what people have to say on an issue like this!:thumbs::thumbs:

I think the posting of pictures should always be carefully considered as to what they contain and if they could be frowned upon or not. More importantly if such pictures could lead to more serious consequences for the person posting them.

I am of the understanding that this is a hunting forum and while common sense say’s if you don’t want to look at my pictures then don’t is somewhat obvious and true, there is always the possibility that they could be heavily frowned upon.

If you know your picture’s are law full and are sure of this without question then I would say feel free to post them, many people including my self like to see how others are doing and congratulate them for doing so.

If the pictures are not law abiding then I would suggest not too post them up. I know that their will always be those that post UN lawful pics on a public forum especially if there is no way of telling where they were taken or linking them back to their origin!

I just think that any form of blatant foul play displayed is not going to benefit any one who enjoys such activities. It could do more harm than good. I am one of these people that could be affected in the long term so feel quite strongly about protecting what I love passionately.

This is just my opinion! ;)

Good topic for starters Coney and one that can cause differing views. Personally i don`t have a problem with photo`s quite the opposite i think they add to a thread. This being a hunting website it is there for like minded hunters to enjoy and discuss different topics pic`s included but all within the realms of common sense. Unfortunately there will allways be a minority that will post unsuitable topics and pic`s this is just something that will happen. But the vast majority will allways use this and other sites the right way. Antis are allways going to be looking in nothing will change there. We use this site to post and share our experience ,knowledge and general love of hunting and long may it continue. I for one will continue to post and share pic`s on here and other sites atb FV

Great subject for discussion! Thanks Coney! :D

I have no objection to the posting of hunting pictures, providing that respect for the quarry is upheld at all times. That's why I posted our guidelines as I believe these outline what content we should provide. They attracted criticism, from some, but I feel that these guidelines are essential to our mission. Which is to promote hunting.

These animals offer an income for some, food for others, and a method of sport for most. Our ancestors harvested these animals and always held them in high regard. I don't see why we can't do the same in 2008.

Photographs always make a thread more entertaining and should be encouraged. If these photographs show a day's outing then put them up! We want to see them and hear your hunting stories!

I'm sure we all share similar ideas of what respect is. Hunting is what we live for and if the photographs are a fitting eulogy, for the game, then they should be displayed with pride.

We all hunt for varying reasons, it's in our blood and defines us as human beings.

Secondly other members state that they do not need to show pictures of quarry/game they have shot to "prove" themselves which again is entirely acceptable as "each to their own" and is certanly not a problem in my eyes but I would like to know everyone's feeling on the subject. No one is forced to display pictures and no one should be discriminated against because they don't. I don't post pictures and I have no reason to prove anything I do to anyone. I've made a career from pest control and airguns, for me, are tools to do a job. As a result, many of my clients wouldn't be happy with photographs of their businesses displayed on a hunting forum. Especially one that is visited by as many antis, journalists, law officials, etc, as this one... That certainly doesn't mean I should be treated any differently to people that do post pictures.

As always I think that people should think before they hit the reply button.

If you wish to post pictures, think long and hard about how they will be viewed by people who browse this forum. Firstly our hunting friends. Secondly the lay public. Those people who don't know what we do. Thirdly, and finally, our opponents.

How would you feel if your images were used against us to further control what we do?

I don't think any hunter, worth his salt, would be offended by pictures of dead animals. I also think that if this does offend certain people then you have no business here... This is a hunting forum and will promote and display such content. This is to be expected... it's what we do. I don't think that we should post disclaimers about tastefully shot pictures that show respect to our quarry. The minute we make such concessions we're apologising for what we're about to show and it puts us in a similar standing to the BBC or ITV, mainstream apologists to ease the conscience of those that have forgotten their heritage.

That is not what The Hunting Life is about and never will be, whilst I'm here in an official capacity.

Show your pictures. Tell us your stories but most importantly show the quarry the respect it deserves, for the generations of interaction they've provided us with. Early man carved hunting images into cave walls, as he told his story. This is the modern day equivalent, as I see it. Instead of stone we have the information super-highway. We wouldn't be where we are today, if we weren't hunter gatherers, and to acknowledge such adventures carries on a tradition that dates back tens of thousands of years.

Never be ashamed of who you are, what defines you and what you do.

We hunt. Therefore we are.

It's each to their own but I can't see the need for it. I have never taken a photo of anything I've shot and never will.

I've no objections to those who choose to post pictures as I never look at them.

Rob......not one for taking photos.
