All criticism levelled at me have concerned "Unsporting" fishing methods,so its time for the fightback to commence,I am actually considering leading a camapign against that scourge of the trouting world, that pariah of the commercial game-fishery,that ner'do'well of the angling community, the dreaded........FLY-FISHERMAN!!

I cleaned a few fish yesterday, two of them had flies/nymphs firmly hooked in the scissors of their jaws, one was trailing several yards of gut.In the last two years I must have collected 60-70 such nymphs/flies/gaudy artificial creations all from the jaws of fish, but do I snipe at fly-fishermen?No,instead I say Que sera sera,we all have our own preferences, methods, intricate ways of doing things, vive le difference :victory: But if your going to go into the woods looking for bear, make sure your loaded for elephant, whats wrong with 50LB BS braid FFS?;)

Yes I'll make you right, there is many a fly fisher that can't play a fish or many may well go under gunned but I am usually the first one that will bite my lip as they tell me about the one "that just bit me clean off" it winds me up as there is no need for it.

I know fish are at the bottom of the food chain and don't really think much, but that fish swimming about with a hook in it is no good to anyone. But why I think your methods are shall we say contravershall, are that these so called commercial trout fisheries are set up for fly fishing and it is not difficult to catch fish using bait, and the people you are cheating are the paying public as the fishery owner/manager will not now that the fish you have taken have gone and therefore not replace them (maybe you should fill in the returns book  ) leaving less fish for the paying punter. All I hope is the fish you catch can be afforded by whom you took them from, then MAYBE it would be ok but I know it would hurt me financially and if done regulary it would finish my buisiness. So all said and done your methods are not bad but you ethics only you know if its right.

Ethics?next to Kent?No mate,we dont fish in ethics  Like I said LG,normally a bona-fide dry-fly fluff chucker myself, but fridays little jaunt with the sweetcorn got me thinking, why is it that there are fly-only fisheries?Whats so special about them mate? Why cant we have sweetcorn only fisheries? And as for mags like "Fly-fishing" why cant we have mags like "Sweetcorn and niblet"?Thinking of it sweetcorns a lot more versatile than flies,I remember once fishing with joe and snagging my last Ummmm,Mayfly-nymph,lost it on some bushes so my day looked to be over, anyway, popped into the bushes for a NO2 finished it,and looked around for some nice soft dock-leaves or grass(Keep it green, recycle mother natures bounties mate)what do I spy in my faecal matter? Some undigested sweetcorn :D scraped them out with a twig, and continued fishing  Started catching straight away, even gave joe a few to adorn his nymphs(that explains why your fingers smelt and tasted funny when you chewed your nails on the way home joe,I didnt think it wise to tell you at the time mate, sorry :icon_redface: ).But I know what your saying LG,and within a week or two no more roving fishery reports from me mate,we have permission on some chalk streams and a salmon river,so no more chasing rainbows for us mate, looking for that pot of gold at the end

Leepy,as I always say mate,we are here for a good time,not a long time,lifes a game mate,I always make the rules up as I go along ;)

If there were only sweetcorn only waters you would get bods using someting like worms to get the upper hand, no it wouldn't work I'm sure they'ed get robbed and anyway they do have sweetcorn pools at some waters you must have seen them, there for children :clapper::victory:

That explains it then, the wife always says I am infantile in my rationale 8) Ok then, forget sweetcorn-only,substitute that for bait-only,but fluff-chuckers often have a holier-than-thou attitude, lots of them in this area fish at stocked fisheries because they have no basic field or bushcraft, wading out in your Simms G4's wearing your William-J vest and lashing the waters with your Orvis Zero isnt a substitute for water-craft mate, some fisheries I have visited look like Roker pier after a mackerel-fest discarded line and rubbish, and I havent ONCE fished and not caught fish trailing line or carrying hooks in their mouths

F***ing hell,I am supposed to be working Lee,need a coffee first though,so Lee,when do I get directions to your fishery then? You mightnt find your returns book filled in,but I am sure you will find a shiny pound coin on the steps of your club house ;)

Yes I agree there should be bait only trout waters or any method waters, there used to be. There are some waters that as you say are so densley populated with trout that their compatition for food forces them to compete for fluff and steel. I must say in the fly fishers defence that fishing for trout with bait would make it too easy as they are raised eating twice a day every day and have no real instinctual fear of humans or any thing come to that(just look at the gerth on a resovior pike to show you how easy preditors find them to catch)so if you enjoy your time down by the lake side you don't want to bag up too soon, and if you fish for trout week in week out they become a little boring to eat, you'll find your nearest and dearest blanking you for the offer of trout as well.

Any way what do you do working wise?

My wifes an Icthyologist Lee,she never turns down a fish, part seal part otter I guess, with a little beaver somewhere ;) Stocking densities in some waters are f***ing ridiculous mate, the lake we fished on friday stocks with 50,000 fish a year :o and the amount of abnormalities we have noticed in fish on some waters is scary,JOE caught a beauty of a fish on friday, nice solid 5'lber except it only had half a tail? What do I do at work mate?As little as f***ing possible my work colleagues will tell you

All our fish are hand graded and we stock within the recomended guide line set by some clever dude employed by the enviroment agency, which is 75lb-150lb of trout/acre depending on the depth of water and its quality. This is so that trout have enough natural food to maintain their condition, it's an animal welfare thing  .

I am also a man that conserves his energys for something more enjoyable but at this time of year mother nature doesn't allow me much free time, saying that its wrecking etc for me on Friday, 30 miles off the coast from Brighton :clapper: .

Hand-graded trout?Stitched at the seams and labelled along the side :icon_eek: F**king hell, you have sold me on them, when do I get an invite?Might even pay more than a quid :whistling:

As for trout being easy to catch on Bait Lee,I am up for a match anytime you are :victory:

Good luck with the wrecking, havent done it for years but I used to enjoy going out of Whitby and tynemouth :victory: Get some decent pics

Its just a little light-hearted ribaldry and joshing between Lee and myself Malt, though I am nonplussed as to Lees steadfast avoidance at providing me with the location of his fishery :icon_eek:

As for the fish, its my intention on several of these lakes to bring the population density down to the environment agency recommended guidelines, trust me,I wont rest till its done

Spoken like a true conservationist , nothing worse than over stocking :whistling:

To be honest Steve we were going to knock it on the head(not the fish)pretty soon as we have our collective eyes on something and somewhere else, but Lees speech about stocking densities, and environmentally approved guidelines made me realise that fish, yes FISH have rights too! Most guys on here probably see them as something they have with chips,or view them as little gold things that swim around in a tank in the corner of the living room and keep the kids amused, but fish have got feelings too mate, imagine sharing your house with 50 other blokes(your not polish are you?).So what I am actually doing is providing better living conditions for those left behind after our visits, lower the numbers improve the lifestyle :victory: More food, more space everyones happy right  I always say,one last time, one last time, and it will be one day, when I get to the end of the rainbow ;)

Flicked through an angling mag yesterday lunchtime,I always like looking at the ads and reading the fishery reports dont you?One trout fishery caught my eye :o F***ING HELL!Is that their stocking density?I hadnt tied any flies this week but there were a few cans of sweetcorn in the fridge, and it seems to be a readily-acceptable and legitimate bait for some of you guys so its not going to hurt is it?Got on the phone(old habits die hard, but I wish I could get out of the habit of pressing 141 before I dial the number),Icould hear it ringing then it was picked up at the other end,Nice home-counties cultured accent :D "Good afternoon ******* fisheries, how can I help you?"

I told him I was interested in a fishing session and could he supply me with a few details,he gave me the spiel, casting lessons....Blah,blah,blah....Rainbow,browns,even tiger-trout...best times to fish the lake, what the fish are taking at the moment"Sorry to interrupt you mate, but do you allow maggots and sweetcorn?"a moments silence"No we dont actually, thats more for course fishing I am afraid"I knew that already.but I decided to press on"So no sweetcorn or maggots, can we night-fish the lake?"This is where it started to go off the rails slightly, his tone changed,he became brusque without being overly rude, but something told me I wasnt going to make his best-chums club.I guess my persistance and winning telephone manner wore him down because when I told him of our intention to fish with starlights and maggots at night he virtually barked down the line "Yes,yes, whatever, whatever"and the line went dead

Whatever, whatever!Thats virtually permission right?Well he didnt say NO did he?We only fished for 20 minutes, its not like we were taking the p**s,but I knew it was going to be a good session when we had 19 on the bank in the first 7 minutes :D I even left the guy a quid tip on the steps of the club house, lucky money I always call it ;) Oh well, that was my foray into the dark side, back to dry-fly next week :D

honest mate i piss myselfe reading your posts. was that the pond that the queen fish to as well :whistling:
