whats the most you would pay for a pup

Recommended Posts

Most I've paid is £500, and that was back in 1999 for a Shepherd pup from imported schutzhund 3 parents, I had to wait for the line I wanted and the sire and dam cost more than a new car........................

Well what price anything if......

You want it bad enough?

It'll get you what you want/need?

It'll do all you require?

It becomes all you ever want/need?

That said for all breeds.... BUT..... This is in the 'Running Dog & Hound' section and some of the best i've owned and seen cost.... 'buttons'!

I'm not a tight arse, by any means.......

But.... I'm old enough to remember when really decent stuff was advertised in the Exchange & Mart for just about the price of rearing......

Mostly for folk who were looking to breed their own replacement, one or two went to friends, the rest covered costs and... when us boys, who ran 'Hippy Whippets', were looking for another 'partner', it was all about, buy cheap, make sommat special.... and hold on for dear life..... a good 'un was then sommat to treasure!!

I can recall up an coming 'faces' :whistling: in this game, breeding 'all new' and 'never heard of' types that couldn't be 'gifted' on to friends, never mind sold....... that then went on to be err....rather good :secret: .... (if a feckin book ever comes out??!!!) :hmm:

Two things that changed the goalposts.... and thats for sure, was the writing about and showing of our workers........

For all his sin's, one thing that's always stuck in my mind from Mr Plummer, was 'the often' quote.... 'Hansome is, as handsome does'...... I wish that had not fell on so many deaf ears.....

So yep, its tough, i'll have to pay the prices...... if 'ALL' of the above is required........ But it feckin well smarts!

I just wish, in this world today, that folk play to the strengths of these versitle hounds and appreciate what they pay all this money for....... The grass isn't always greener!!!!

Cheers ;)

i would pay £200 at the most for a working dog and thats still abit over for my liking, i know people say you pay good money for good breeding, but even the best dogs throw shite working dogs.

So what if you couldnt find one 200 or under does that mean you would live without a dog. If so you really ought to consider not having one at all.

why should i consider not having a dog ? not all dogs work reguardless of what the parents can do, so why should i pay a fortune for somthing that might be shite???? consider not having one!! what a load of bollocks...

I think you missed my point but it doesnt matter. If you concentrate more on the price than on what you are buying then shite as you put it is probably what you will get.

the way i look at it i work for a living to earn my keep the dogs are my hobby passion my life not an extra means off income on the rare occasion ive had a litter in the past the price off a pup was a bag off beta puppy to half feed the pups that i keep on the price off "working" pups is getting rediculous its not a pet which you choose purly for looks and both live happily ever after its a worker which may not make the grade so what then in my case pts but allot of people think this dogs cost me a weeks wage i cant justyfy loosing that sort off money i know what ill sell it and try get some money back next thing you know the poor dog is getting passed pillar to post cause knowbody is prpared to take a loss. a pup no mater how well bred is not worth anything at the end off the day its when they become usefull that they creat a value but its rare any great dog becomes for sale. remember its about the sport not the money.

well mate you pay for what you get

you could go out and but a well bred coursing pup for 350 plus or a normal lurcher pup is usually 100-300 , depends on what type of dog youre after the prices vary for different bred working dogs ,, SNIPER

the most i would (and have)ever give for a pup(lurcher or terrier)is £100.that's the way it will remain.they are working dog pups for working class people.you are paying for a pup(that might amount to shit)not a proven dog.paying big money=you lose more

totally agree with merlin, lots of pups getting sold for telephone number prices, lets remember lurchers are working dogs for working class people, like every thing else prices for pups have gone mad these last few years, and no im not mean to pay more than a 100 for a pup, i do believe alot of money is charged for pups that due to their breeding and financial gain will never amount to anything ,but then again you pay your prices and take your chances

SOME FOLK WANT OUT FOR NOWT...

SHINFING BOUT A FEW HUNDRED QUID THAT YOU WOULD SPEND ON THE PISS IN TWO SAT NIGHTS OR ON AN EXTRA 2" ON YOUR TELLY SHOWS EXACTLY WHO DOG PEOPLE ACTUALLY ARE..

WHEN YOUR PALS ETC BREED PUPS , YEAH YOU CAN GET THEM CHEAP..BUT THE DOGS GIVE ME MORE ENTERTAINMENT AND FILL MY TIME MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE IN THE WORLD..

The first lurcher i bought was form a pal for £150 , The next one off the same lad for £250 to help cover his stud fee for his bitch and got pick of the litter..the next one was £50 , as the fella breeding them thought i was a decent sort..then the patterdale was £150...You pay your money then its in the hands of the gods...I wouldnt change anything for all the money in the world..every moment spent with them has been priceless...

you can only pay whats in your pocket . some people got big pockets, some (me) got short pockets..But i got 4 well bred WORKING dogs 2 terriers 2 lurchers ,total cost £175..All do the job and in the summer won a couple of rosettes .. If i had more cash then i might have been less picky and took a chance but i cant .Waited for the right dog,s , lucky to have true dog men as mates and benifited cos they know i,ll do right by the dogs ,hence cheaper price...
