runforyourlife 361
Hi, my youngest pup, who is just under 7mths, grawls at me and anybody else when he has a bone, or a pigs ear, trotter of snout, etc. He doesnt grawl when he is eating and being fed, you can put your hand in his bowl. Its just he is very protective of his things he likes best. Doesnt do it with his domby, or rabbit pelts, do you think this natural.? You want to knock that out of him sharpish, any sign of agression needs sorted immediately. Belt him & take it away from him. No doubt some Barbara Woodhouse will say otherwise What would you do if someone came and took your car, missus, ferrets, dogs??? Knock f**k outta them, but we're talking about a dog here not a marriage breakdown wow, i bet your dogs respond well to you pal! when i lift my hand, my dogs come in to me, as taught, not cower down! The thing you do to a dog for obidence is grab them by the scruff of the neck and twist, till they yelp and submit!! Not beat them! If a dog shows any aggression towards humans it should be dealt with harshly, my dogs learnt that whilst pups & since then had no bother. A large bull x allowed to find its feet & allowed to assert itself could do some damage, wouldn't take that chance with kids around. Its worked for me Pal, i have a large bull grey, as well as a bedlington saluki(saluki known for aggresion) plus this pup, take a look back at my posts you will see pics of my dogs and bulls.... I dont think anybody else would agree with you about hitting dogs! Its all about6 time, and patience! then the dog will show you the respect you show it! Like I said, I'd punish them when pups if need be & its worked for me & I get no trouble when they're older. If you honestly think no one hits their dogs ur dreaming pal, u might get a few jumping on the band wagon now though. No one hits their kids either do they? I dont believe people hit there dogs, and all the guys i hunt with, or visit shows with, or dig with, would give the person a dig them selves if they saw them beating a dog or a kid! What kind of a man beats a defenceless animal, that is going to work for you for the rest of its life...... leave it now, because your winding me up! MATE, I've looked through your posts like you said to. Who the f**k are you kidding? You said when you first joined THL that you had been hunting etc for over 30yrs.Lets take a few of your posts as examples i.e - How slim or fat should a bull x be? If you don't know how a healthy dog should look you shouldn't be keeping them. What height will my pup make? Surely a man with your experience knows that it could throw towards the size of the smallest or biggest dogs in its breeding. You could've asked Mystic Meg to check her crystal ball. How many helpers would I need to ferret these limestone warrens? Surely a hunter of your calibre, who said he also likes a dig, can manage a days ferreting without assistance. Russ, your full of shit mate. You see your dogs as a collection & your aim is to breed the ultimate ferret Could it be that you are looking to fill the void left by the late D.B.Plummer? Now your winding me up. I do hope THL members take the time to look back at your previous posts & see you for what you really are - A PRETENDER I have been hunting for 30yrs pal, terriers and terriers... I am making chat, and making friends, plus still learning... I have never owned a bull grey in the past pal!!!! So i asked the questions to learn about them!!! I had never ferreted in land with rich soil, and as many rabbits to dig such sizeable warrens... As if you look at the east lancs country moorland it is harsh land!! You didnt like me saying you would be frawned upon for hitting your dog! So you try to belittle me, well it wont work pal, will ...And dont stick your finger up at me pls pal there realy is no need!!!!" And i will wind you up, , lol. see ya Quote Link to post
Simoman 110
A pup needs to know its placeand I would not tolerate being growled at by one of my dogs. I never have and never will give a dog a beating as 99% of the time its done to placate the owners anger and not correct the dogs behaviour. Some pups will be happily corrected verbally but some with a stronger tempermant may need a different correction. Quote Link to post

This was the kind of answer i was looking for, not a slanging match.....It is quite annoying simo, and i am sure he well learn and come to, with the scruff of the neck treatment.... cheers Quote Link to post

Guest proudy
Well Russ, you've worked & kept dogs for twice as long as me but your still not sure of feeding, entering etc. Am I right in thinking that you have only owned one bull x? Some dogs need more than a word in the ear, they're not all the same. But you're the expert, I won't allow a dog to show aggression towards people & rather than take a chance with an 80lb dog getting jealous around people/children. Stick to your main goal in life, ultimate ferrets will be a less of a risk than bull x's Quote Link to post

mart123blue 0
What I do is tell the dog to leave it before I take the food, bone or whatever away. If you do it without warning then you are not giving them a chance to obey. I know some like to do it the other way but I cannot see the point Quote Link to post

Food changes overthe years proudy, and when i was young until i was 22 yrs old, my mum bought the dog food, tins! yes tins... never really took much notice of the feeding.... And who the f... said i was an expert, i wouldnt ask the questions if as iwas as full of myself as some on here!! Cheers lads for the replys underneath all of this bull, and i will try all surgested. He did it when i first got him, then i scruffed him, and he stopped. Lat night was the first time for a while but he had had a good run, and seemed very very tired... grumpy little fu.ker, like his dad, lol. cheers again. Quote Link to post

skycat 6,173
you could try the 'drop and swap' Have two fantastic bones/ears to hand, and when hes got one, offer him the new one. They normally cant resist the temptation to take the new bone and will drop the old one. As he does it say 'drop' or whatever. Eventually he will get it and will drop on command in anticipation of something better. Thanks God for a sensible answer! Quote Link to post
