Guest bigredbusa
the others are fine but the poleat has turned into a bit of a spastic spider and sort of does a constant jack russell skip with his back legs . any ideas ? Quote Link to post
Kay 3,709
Could be osteodystrophy copied from a site Osteodystrophy is also known as brittle bones. This disease was more common in the past, when ferrets were fed diets low in calcium. Young ferrets (usually around 6-12 weeks old) with osteodystrophy moved more like seals with their front legs pointing out to the side. Because the bones in their legs and spines are deformed and soft, they never completely recover. To avoid this, please make sure you give your ferret a balanced diet so that it gets all the necessary nutrients to keep it strong and healthy. Quote Link to post
droid 11
Does he do it with one leg only, or alternate legs? I was going to suggest 'piles' but you,d think I was taking the piss. Which I would have been doing..... Quote Link to post

Looks like he's just having a bit of trouble moving from crawling to walking... i have a litter of 7 week olds that are doing a bit of this, though fewer and fewer each day... I was REALLY worried at first .. cause they dont seem to actually be STANDING on the back legs much.. But slowly each day one or two more will start hobbling along better and stronger.. we've only 3-4 now that are still crawling... Maybe give him a bit longer to steady himself up... and if he's still havin some trouble..find him a pet home instead.. Pet owners are suckers for "special " ferrets lol Quote Link to post

Hey they're lil bodies are still developing.. in the wild, perhaps it would be the weak link.. but in your back garden he might catch up just fine and end up being a Great lil worker for you!
