whin 463
were we run big land estates plenty sport but you need wind and very good feet as its dry land well drained best on a good nite when i could sell hundreds of game we could catch 5 roe and half a dozen hares twice \a week at the start of the season the maybe threes or twos as the year went on i have good collie line breds but the saluks out of tor of dartmoor lines etc lasted alot longer as you could run the dogs out in an hour some times , when i was selling game on a bigger scale i kept 4 dogs three big saluk types and a collie cross would run a pair a nite then give them a blow, had the best sport a man could ask for and cion , but alas its harder to sell qauntity nowadays cheers, all the best some of the feilds we run are realy big but woods surround them so its hard if there lying tight to woods but when you get one out and your in an old motor on the stubbles, great sport as you can follow the beam and not lose the chase as its rolling hills some feilds are 60 acres etc cheers hard going of you get several hares roe chases rapid as you do on good nites cheers Quote Link to post
woodga 170
my dogs put game in the bag an ability to place game in my hand or at my feet beit day or night, good around all livestock and be able to catch the quarry selected and be out 3 or 4 times a week and be my best mates devoted to only me im lucky in the fact i have two lurchers who fit that bill perfectly an old saying that rings true you only get out of a dog what your prepared to put in by no means would i ever say my lurchers are world beaters but for me they do the job i ask of them and to me thats all that matters Quote Link to post
Guest proudy
Why do people make a big thing of lurchers taking Roe? Roe are f**k all for an average lurcher never mind a decent one. Dogs don't have to be game to take them. A lot of substandard dogs will take Roe but wouldn't agree to a fox clamped on their noses. Even big slips just need a fast dog not a game one. The whippet lurchers I kept years ago would tackle Roe without hesitation. Quote Link to post
