got myself a bit of gear togethor today, went over a lake by me with a mate who knows what he was doing so he said he would show me the ropes. He put his two rods out and i only had the one to put out but still fancied my chances.half an hour in and me mates alarm goes then the second goes off so he said i could play one , soon as i picked it up my alarm goes mad, so f****d his of out of it and went to me own rod.Pulled in my first carp only about 8/9 pound he said but still good feeling.first ever rig i tied myself to so wernt all bad.post-15693-1213904035.jpgmight of been smaller, only a guess on weight.

I have read a few of Chris Yate's books recently, he generally freelines with a few bits of sweetcorn on the hook, and he used to hold the British Record. The more I read about the top anglers the more it seems to be about locating the fish, (and putting the time in for the really big ones).

Saying that I have loads of tackle, the trouble is its easier to buy tackle than put the time in to go fishing. Most of my stuff is not particularly expensive, the fish doesn't know what make your reel is.

Good luck

but your reel will know it's a 40lb carp lol :)

good going , own rigs is the way to go , no one to blame if your end tackle messes up ;)

I know you are only joking, but I am just saying that you don't need £200 reels to catch Carp. My baitrunners cost £20 for the pair and are fine, Chris Yates caught his British Record on a cane rod and centre pin reel.

That said the nice stuff is addictive, but don't they say tackle is designed to catch anglers not fish :)

well done on your catch mate.

i remmember the days when sitting for carp a very addictive sport.

even so you catch one your always wanting the next one bigger.

anyway all i will say is i used to fish some cracking lakes with 30lb+ fish in

my biggest landed at 26lb.of which has been my biggest carp to date .

anyway i used to sit their and watch all the guys with all the top of the range this

top off the range that, and nine times out of ten its all show it dosnt catch fish.

i used to use one rod one real never once used a bite alarm. or you would sit and fall asleep.i used to sit watch the water watch where the fish were passing threw and different routes they take everyday to pick their food.and learn their habbits .as for my tackle i had some nice size hooks between 10/14 some bombs a few carp cotroller floats a disgorger.

a cracking rod with a bounce to it. a cheep real so nothing amazing and all important

a nice comfy seat a brolly and a nice flask off tea.

as for bait that never went past

bread has to be warbatons they love it.

sweetcorn.

lunchen meat.

and dog biscuits.

a good club that has good stock is a good starting point too

anyway bread and lunchen meat bottom fishing

dog biscuits floating on top first thing i look for in a good lake is if their taking them off top if so yur in for a good day and a nice way to catch them.

anyway it can be done cheep back to basics it did it for me for a good 20 years

unless your going out for a days sunshine and a pose with your tackle lol

anyway all the best mate and keep them lines tight
