Hi

Well one of my jills had her litter on the 14th, i bred her because she is my favourite jill a great worker the lot, along with a good working hob of mine. I handle my ferrets everyday all are tame however she is showing no signs of protecting her young from me no hissing, nipping, nothing she is acting like there are no young ones in there, she is feeding them I think as they are now 3 days old and are still with us. Do i need to be bothered she trusts me so much.I don't want to disturb her to much. She is eating well i am feeding her rabbit and pigeon mostly with a bowl of dry in there as well just for a bit of extra food.

Could i give her a bit of puppy/cat milk to help her aswell

Hi there.. i had the same experience with my jill Thyme.. the first kit she literally almost had in my hand.. Afterwhich she was quickly put into her nesting box to get on with it lol..

The first few days she was just fine with me close by etc... i just kept filling up the food and listening for the squawks.. that's the key.. as long as they make noise then hush up when mum nurses .. then she's doin fine and leave her to it! You're doing fine offering lots of raw meat, and plenty of water, though i'd be a bit wary of offering milk containing any lactose in case it upsets her tummy which is the opposite affect you're looking for...

With mine i noticed about the end of the 1st week mum started getting a bit more protective.. dashing out of the nest to meet me just to make sure i wasn't goin in the box...

all off my jills have been like that, they then turn into bitches from hell when the kitts are a couple of weeks old, maybe its the motherly thing kicking in

You still got that hob i gave you Stubby mate?

hi mate, we were only talking about you the other day (all good I add) yup, "buster" is getting on great, he's my missus fav ferret, and the "DADDY" of the line of ferrets I keep, and the missus has just picked out his first grandson "boston" albino hob, as hers too

soon as we get some batteries for the camera, I'll get some pic's up

I'd just give mine plenty of fresh meat and water ,Maybe from two weeks onward try a rabbit leg in the nest box and see if any of the kitts try that and that will help the jill

my 3 jills act differently, one nips my arm when i put it in to change her food but after the nip she is fine again, one runs out to check im not a threat even if i think i am making no noise she is out (amazing hearing) but is still fine to handle and the other is an absouloute gem she lets me look at and stroke the kits and all the while acts like she always has i'd trust that jill in the hands of a toddler, when i open the cage if i am wearing a coat or jumper (something with sleeves to grip onto) i put my hand on the floor and she walks up my arm and onto my shoulders, shes my favourite ferret :icon_redface:

Here is a of her pic taken earlier today
