Groverdog 0 Posted June 16, 2008 Report Share Posted June 16, 2008 Started about two months one of the terriers started to itch and bite at her front legs causing a bad sore. Within a few days all the kennelled dogs were doing the same. Took the First terrier to the vet who dianosed a chorioptic mange (just by looking at the dog - no skin scraping) and sent me away with Frontline and steriods for all seven dogs for a week. We normally use Coopers Spot on for cattle on the dogs and it fairly does the trick for beastie control but i thought that maybe it wouldnt work for that kind of mite. Anyway it didnt work and all the dogs were still itching after two weeks. So i Spot on'd them as usual and it seemed to clear up the outside dogs. Now the GSD is at her back legs and has bald stifle area but the skin isnt red or inflammed. She was frobtlined and spot on'd too with the others. Ive chooks too who are regulary treated for mites etc and the sheep are spot on'd etc etc. Now im stumped! Not wanting to chuck more chemicals on them as theve been nuked a fair bit. Cant belive that all the dogs would be allergic to the same thing and they are mostly fed tripe, bones and raw meat etc with an occassional week of dry. Any ideas? Also forgot to say we use Virkon S in the kennels and sheds and have done for years. Nothing new being used around house or outside that we know of. Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Guest coney catcher99 Posted June 17, 2008 Report Share Posted June 17, 2008 just remembered hibi scrubb is the bollocks had a litter of lurchers with a mite under the skin took them to the vets he took a scrap an give us a little bottle with pink solution in £60 when we got out and explained to the ladie on the desk she said i aint suppose to tell you this butt all the pink stuff is is what they use in hospitals to wash their hands before they do an operation ever since iv had bottles of it from the hospital you can see new hair growing back in days Quote Link to post Share on other sites

ConeyCatcher - that Duramitex is that the stuff thats used for pigeon lofts? Think ive heard of that. And ive Hibiscrub in the veterinary kit so ill give that a go to. Cant for the life of me think where they have all picked the mites up from as all the animals are regularly Spot on'd and kennells and sheds are regualrly treated too. Not impressed with that Frontline at all. £38 for a bottle and after i sprayed them and it didnt work i read the label properly and it just said "may aid in the control of cheyalless sp. etc etc - not Will kill them" Def better off with Coopers Spot on! Didnt want to nuke them again but equally have to get rid of this for the dogs sake. Was hoping it was just conincedence with the GSD and it would be just a heat thing or something. Brought each dog in earlier to go over with a fine tooth comb and low and behold one of the terriers has another bald pot on rump again. Bloody hell thiese mites are a tough lot eh. Never seen fleas on the dogs and ticks have fairly been repelled with that spot on (we do live in a heavily infested tick area) but the mites must have got through the barrier! springerman 2 Posted July 2, 2008 Report Share Posted July 2, 2008 hi mate, just been through the same thing with my lot,absolute nightmare vet gave me something like spot on had no affect at all ! in the end ivomeced the spaniels and two of the lurchers but the collie lurcher i used camrosa ointment its a bit messy and you have to use it for a month but sorted the problem Quote Link to post Share on other sites
