Its south hylton mate,there used to be countless bottles just below the surface when we used to ferret the mound,its in the middle of the large field on the edge of the river.

There was also loads of buried bottles at the bottom of Pottery-bank in south hylton,we used to find dozens of old clay pipes,I found loads of intact ones,they were made down there,you never think about that as a kid,we had no interest in them. :icon_eek:

horse's, whittling, just started having a go with a metal dector, and am intrested in the old bottles, how would i find out were the old bottle dumps were, been to the libary but they couldnt help have spoke to some of the old locals but they didnt come up with anything usefull so any ideas ??????

best thing to do is when out hunting just have a scratch about in hedgerows are try and find out if there is a bottle show near you www.bottledigginguk is a canny sit post on there and see if theres any fllow diggers on there in your area

Lads round here just go out in the night and dig big holes anywhere....think its just pot luck really...the fuckers never back fill though and leave open digs all over the shop!

Its a mix of luck and research blaze,the more research someone does the luckier they seem to get.I have found hundreds of roman coins,only bronze grots though,but I know a guy who makes very good money indeed from a metal detector,certainly enough to pay for his foreign holidays every year :icon_eek:
