Tumbleweed 1
Okay... the kits are now 3 weeks today and have started to eat meat over the last couple of days. I've noticed that at the moment the jill's keep pulling them away from it and back to the nest - which I assume they'll stop doing soon. (I guess it could also be because I'm watching them and the jills are being protective). Also I have 22 kits in the same nest, how is the best way to approach feeding meat to ensure they all get a good share of it? As they've only just turned 3 weeks I assume it's a bit early to take them out of the nest to feed them meat but when should I start to do so? When does meat become more than a supplement to the mothers milk? It's amazing how much they love meat straight away lol. Quote Link to post
Kay 3,709
Take the meat to the kits in the nest just put in a little bit more than you know they will realistically eat, then even the smaller ones get a chance to have a decent feed, i would have a quick look after around half hour of feeding & check if theres still any eating , if they look contented & fairly quiet i would remove any leftovers then. Malt 379
Now my kits have started on the meat, the jil's having a hell of a job! I put a plate of meat in now, and the kits come streaming out of the nest box & head straight for it! She then tries to pull them all back in, but she's got a battle on her hands! Quote Link to post
stubby 175
even before their eyes open, they start sniffing out fresh meat, as kay say's, I put a large bowl in for the jills (shared court) and while they are eating, chuck chunk size bits to the kitts Quote Link to post
