harrycatcat 31
I have been thinking of something to do in the "off shooting season" as I have never fished before in my life. I have got some books out of the library and the only real type of fishing that appeals to me is beach casting/fishing even though I live 100 miles from the coast. What sort of rod how long ? equipment ect should I buy ? new second hand, from fishing shop at the coast or buy it off flea bay ?. Any advice such as books videos to watch would help me in my search for info. I know that I wont pick it up in a week but I have to start some time. ps I am going up to Alnmouth on Sunday are there any shops up there to look in ?? Quote Link to post
Malt 379
You don't need nothing spectacular for a bit of beach casting. Get yourself something like a 12 ft beachcaster & reel combo from the local tackle shop & give it a blast. Some grip weights are an advantage when beach fishing. Quote Link to post
Guest bullterrier
get your self a fixed spool reel and fill it with 12 pound line and some shock leader a standard 12 ft rod that with will cast between 4to8oz some weights and some rigs rod rest there's a magazine called sea angler they have some good deals mate and tips on were to fish and what tides to fish nothing like eating fresh fish that you have court yourself mate good luck hope you enjoy it mate. ..john Quote Link to post

huntergatherer 0
Does anyone know if there are any fishing tackle shops near Alnmouth ?????? afraid i dont mate, if you must use a shop rather than a mail order co(better deal) then ask the shop owner to set uyou up, with rigs, line and bits of termianl tackle. And load your reel up with shock leader. A good shop owner should do this for you. I used to own a fishing tackle shop in cornwall, and did a basic startup package, don't be fooled into buying a multiplier as a reel as matey said above stick to a fixed spool, make sure u like fishin first. They can be a pain in the arse for beginners!!!! Another tip get yourself a cheap map, ask the shopkeeper to mark some spots on it for ya and get some calamari squid, and your off. P.S. YOu could ask about local clubs, theres usually someone in a S.A.A that will help you along, much like here, be warned there are some no it alls!!!! as u probably already know. All the best mate Tight lines Quote Link to post
