I live at the very back of Poole Harbour and every summer see plenty of decent sized mullet knocking about in part of the harbour near my house. I have seen Mullet from the smallest of fry up to 6 - 7lb mark id say. This year i plan to have a go at catching one.

I know that they are pretty difficult to hook some times so i was looking for some tips.#

I was planning on pre baiting an area using an old onion sack and some bread crubs and some sort of meat.....but other than that im not to sure what else to do to maximise success. The only mullet i have caught here before is a small golden grey about 10 years ago when bass fishing at the same spot!

cheers

Sounds good Nog,poole harbour, not far at all, whats the bass situation like down there, many about :victory:

not alot showing as of yet that i know of, apart from the hords of chequers! the bigger fish will start to show towards the end of the summer....august - september time. Some big bass stay through the winter aswell, me and my brother and dad have caught them whilst flounder fishing in the middle of winter.

im not the best angler but ive had a few mullet

i always have lots of ground bait /// bread and mackeral flesh put in a mincer add a little bit of water so its all mushy

then when you get there just chuck a few handfulls in before you set up

then theres your hook bait

i use either a flacke of bread or the flesh of a mackeral

both work

hope you have some success

ps what lb line are you going to be using

as a youngster we used to try and catch them

we had a few on rag worm ,they are very soft lipped so hook pulls happen

the best way i found in the end was to wait for them to feed in the shallows then shoot them with my AA pro sport

got much more this way :whistling:
