three days ago i had a discussion to a guy in a holiday house on the edge of the estate (id stopped because he was on the floor next to his mower and thought he might have done his ankle or similar) any way he was one of those "every thing has a right to live folk" the discussion was just that, at no point did it turn loud or heated..we agreed to disagree and left it at that..

 

the next morning on checking a larson that was a few hundred yards from his property i found the call bird had been realeased.. figuring it was him i moved another to the park behind his house and as sure as eggs were eggs that too was realeaed with in hours....

 

all the traps were registered with the police and had the basc notices on the lid.. i went and chapped on his door accompanyed by a witness, he fully admitted to realeasing them and said he would stand by what he had done..

 

so the question is ... to report or not ??? iv already decided but thought id see what others would have done..

Particularly given that you're in Scotland where you now have the registration rules. It would be quite interesting if the first prosecution was for interfering with a registered trap rather than any infringement of the license.

you could make it a slam dunk by setting them again, hiding out somewhere and take a video of him in action, or maybe set some trail-cams if you have them ....

Silly idots ,, what makes it thier buissness to interviene with our buissness ,,We had our magpie realsed last weekend,, our estate is very public and the wing option is not an option So we have stopped trapped magpies but the good thing is theres no pairs left

The crime would'nt be theft as no body can actually claim wild animals ,but definately report him

I'd have him done and make an example of him.

Then I'd go to him and explain to him that the magpies he released would have been killed (murdered, battered even) by the resident population.

well i did report him, there coming around in the morning for a statement, and the wildlife crime officer said they had enough to charge him, so hears hoping.. i feel like a tit for reporting him, but if someone was to see that i wasnt looking after my call bird properly they would do the same id dare say.. i keep you all up dated

they never feel bad making breaches of the hunting act alegations, he took the law into his own hands, when it comes to his door he can enjoy it
