Neal 1,873
Apologies for resurrecting a slightly old thread but I've not been on the forum for about a week so this is the first time I've seen this thread. I once had a collie x whippet whose breeder used one of her racing whippets to help round up the sheep. It was a long time ago so I may be a tad wrong about the breeding but I believe the dog was about 3/4 whippet and 1/4 greyhound but there was also a collie x greyhound several generations back in its breeding. I think it worked out at about 1/32 or 1/64 collie. Quote Link to post

heart of wales 19
This the classic horses for courses We have 2500 sheep and 180 cattle and we use Beardie Collies and border collies border collies tend to have a lot of trial blood in them and they are exellent for trial type work i.e parting out fiffty from a flock our quickly fetching sheep in .The Beardie is a different kettle of fish Fearless tremendous hunting ability lot more bouncy than a border our will catch and hold lambs without marking them. We have had several that will hunt as good as a lurcher but it is a pain in the ass if you are rushing to get sheep in and your dog shoots of after a hare or rabbit. The only problem I can see about using a lurcher for sheep work is his hunting instinct you want him to get your sheep in as you have a gang of shearers waiting to shear them and you get him out in the field and up pos a hare the dog returns half hour later I will put up a photo of a Beardie collie that would make an exellent Lurcher stud dog when I get my PC fixed Quote Link to post
