daniel23 6
Alright Lads, Ive been giving my pup pigs ears when he is alone to keep him occupied etc, I have been told that they will help develop his jaw muscles and that they are great for dogs. I have just been doing some reading on them and they are very high in fat,.... some websites saying they will cause obesity etc. Its totally put me off giving them to my boy now. Do any of you lads give pigs ears to your dogs?

Simoman 110
Yep, all the time. Keep feeding them, they are great for helping to develop neck and jaw muscles and keep the dogs occupied. Unless your feeding 30 a day I wouldn't worry about the fat content
daniel23 6
ok so one a day will be ok then yes?
Simoman 110
Yes mate, no problem at all. fat is an essential part of a nutritional diet anyway although I have no idea of the fat content in a pigs ear.

daniel23 6
Don't worry, if you want to learn more about canine nutrition google BARF yes mate ive already done a bit of reading on BARF..... currently feeding him on puppy complete kibble "with chicken and rice".. with a bit of raw mince beef and a little bit of sardine... he loves it... He went to the vet yesterday for his first jab, the vet said he is very healthy looking just a tiny bit podgey around the middle lol... so i have made his meals slightly smaller now. he weighed 4.4 kgs. he is very big for his age (just under 8 weeks) ... was the biggest in his litter
Guest Ditch_Shitter
Just out of curiosity, Daniel; Are these ears raw, or the cooked ones they sell in pet shops?

I also spoke to the vet about the kibble Im using and she said that the company have spent billions researching there products and that they are perfect and are exactelly what pups need... she even told me to stop giving the mince and fish... I havent though Ive just cut back on it slightly.
Simoman 110
Your vet is an idiot Dogs get ALL the essential nutrients from raw, a balance of 60% raw meaty bones such as chicken carcases, wings etc and 40% minced meat, veg, fish and fruit. This contains ALL the essential vitamins and minerals. Kibble contains grain which is NOT natural to the dogs digestive system and has been linked to colitis, allergies and a list of problems. Vets AREN'T canine nutritionists
Guest Ditch_Shitter
:wallbash: :wallbash: Daniel; That same damn vet is, on the one hand, providing the very ingrediants for that 'oh so wonderful and nutricious' " Kibble " ~ it's called " Vet Kill ", by those in the know. She'll then be charging ye extortionate prices For the shit. Then she'll have You pay her mortgage for her by charging ye to look after that Dogs teeth and cardiovascular system, plus it's bum, pumping it full of useless and potentially lethal drugs every few years for the rest of its wretched 'DeSexed' existance and god alone knows what else as it rots to an early death of cancer - all thanks to listening to someone who makes their rich style living out of uninformed or blind animal keepers misery. But take heart, mate. Ye here now and herein lies a rich source of Proper Information. Yes, it's a mine field of the simply opinionated. Those who'll tell ye how they've 'Always done it' and whose Dogs appear 'Fine'. But, if ye really dig around carefully, ye will come up with the handful of people here who put up properly cited, peer reviewed, unbiased scientific information. Exactly the sort of stuff that white coat won't ever want ye to see. And which probably the majority on here can't be arsed to read anyway, because they already " Know what's right." Like Daegorro; You too must now choose.
