Just had the Dogs out for their daily mouch about. Dashing about in meadows and peering over hedges at cattle, ponies and my donkey ~ the Dogs enjoyed themselves too  ~ when I came to a small hay meadow, up the top end of the track, which caught my eye as I came in yesterday. It made me think back to what once was. How I'd snap a lead on my Dogs and trapse along an exhaust stinking, kebab and condom strewn main road, stepping over empty bottles and cursing the broken ones. Dodging people and ever watchful for any signs of a source of sudden and unprovoked violence. Just life as normal in a british inner city.

Now this .....

Nice isn't it DS! If I took a 10 minute walk in any direction, (apart from southwards of westwards, I'd be in the sea!) I'd find myself looking at scenes like that. Wouldn't change it for the world!

10 to 15 minute walk to the south west:

There's beauty in everything if you look hard enough. some of my fondest memories are from a dirty industrial riverside town, wouldn't swap them for anything but being in the countryside is as equally pleasant.

:clapper: That's nice, Malts! Is that an island? If so, I'd have to get out there! Islands bug me. They Need investigation!

Yes mate. The picture was taken from the top of a cliff at the back of Giltar point.

Caldey Island to the left of the picture, and St Margaret's Island to the right.

Caldey is owned by a load of monks, who make chocolate, perfume and, erm, well that's about it really, chocolate & perfume! They permit boat trips to land there a few times a day, popular with the tourists, and anything that gets the tourists out from under our fecking feet is popular with the locals too!

Nothing much on St. Margaret's, except a few old ruins, seabirds and thousands of rats.

I don't have to wander for too long to get to the beach. We've got some of the best countryside within a short drive of us. Its not quite the same as living in it like I once did but i'll be back there one day.

One of my favourite places is within a 30 minute drive of me, West Wittering, I love the beach there but this time of year its so busy.

:icon_eek:That's where I'd be headed, mate! I don't eat chocolate, look a c*** smelling of perfume and have little time for the exclusive companionship of bald men and tourists!

Missie; You at all familiar with Henfield, by any chance? :hmm:

Well I'm on the isle of lewis, I cant imagine life on the mainland, I have been, I have seen, I still live here in my tiny village. There are no worries here, we dont have a letter box, the post man lets himself in and leaves the post on the kitchen table and takes our post away, I don't even know where the key is for the front door!! I asked to borrow a neighbours 4x4 to go pick a trailer up on the other side of the island, yeah no worries he says, what about the keys I says ?? Oh I leave em in it .. haha great. We dont lock our car or take the face off the radio, the insurance is dirt cheap as ya cant get a car off the island without a ferry! The winter is hard but the fuel for heating is free (peat), but ya have to cut it. It dont get dark this time of year, but in winter it hardly gets light. I wouldn't swap it for the world.

And NO ya cant come live here but ya can come visit :D
