Is it possible to use decent quality fencing poles as longnet poles? If not would there be anyone prepared to sell some? second hand or new?

You will be better off investing in some fibreglass poles..... they do come at a cost, but you will get your moneys worth

hazel works fine for most... cut it from a hazel tree

 

about 32" is what i used to have mine at....

i like them to be about 12mm thick when using hazel

I started off with electric fence poles, and found they worked fine, just the right height to set a net on, they had a 6" steel pointed spike, great for hard ground, and a small notch in the top, which I'd lay the top line of net into,

but soon after I got into the quickset longnets and gave them to ferreter216 to use,

i have garden stakes, havent used them yet, but do you think they are anny good.
