good dogs ,malinois x greyhound the most used cross breeding in holland to start a lurcherline, good prey drive, good retrieve, good nose, only downside is in my opinion their tendency to be hardmouthed wich is the general opinion over here, nevertheless good huntingdog ;)

Over the last season I have hunted many times with warren( Brian Chipper Smith) off this site and his malinois bitch Fizz, she is an exellent hunter and ferreting dog very powerfull and just keeps on going all dayI have yet to see any thing match her staying power, Chipper is talking about putting a greyhoundxwhippet over her this year, for the only thing she lacks is a little speed, I also had the pleasure of seeing a first cross owned by a friend of Chipper work last season a big strong black dog that could jump like a deer and was doing exellent in the field, has a base for a lurcher I see no reason why this cross would not be a good place to start if you have a lot of work for your dog, but like already said not for the faint hearted

I will agree with John Hubery, the Malinios is not for the faint hearted and someone said earlier they are not a beginners dog!!

Fiz is still only a young bitch, 16 or 17 months I would have to check! Even at her tender age her first season in the field has been a gooden. She has excelled at whatever quarry we have hunted with her, if she hasnt been the first to catch she has had a big influence over the catch!! If fiz was a yard or two faster she would probably put my lurchers out of work. She is prooving to be a very usefull asset in every thing I do in the great outdoors. If she carries on the way she is I will be putting Dave Slieghts Wild Boy (13/4 Greyhound 1/14 Whippet) over her and I recon that will produce my ideal lurcher.

I can't really comment on staight malis but I recently bought the malinoisxgreyhound that was on this forum I believe he's out of morgo's first litter he has the same attitude and running style as a gsdx but is racier built than a lot of gsdx's the dog is a quick learner in the time i've had him I can drop him at 50-60 yards by voice, hand signal or whistle and he'll do a 25 minute blind stay and he didn't lay when I got him although he did other things he jump like a steeplechaser and although he only picked a few bits he's shown no fear on any quarry and any mistakes he made he's quickly rectaified them I think malis and there crosses are good if you can give them plenty work but I wonder if some malixgreyhound will turn out to sharp for a lot of people to live with.
