it happens far to often and the legitimate sporting shooters are going to suffer because of it.

mindless t##ts injuring poor little kids with air rifles should be banged up,and our useless government have got to do something about it without making legit shooters suffer

we get no problems up here.............its very rural, and thats probably the answer, theres probably a sub-concious that has a respect and understanding, from days gone by,it has to be inbred i suppose??

I don't think it's you, or the people living in the countryside who've lost any plots, mate.

 

Taking it we both live in similar circumstances, ye'd understand points such as: Sons are to be favoured. Because, for a small farmer there's simply never enough hours in the day. My neighbours work nine to five, down in day jobs in town. Then they're out here, on the land, till probably 21:00 / 22:00 or untill it gets dark. Even then, I've " Lamped " Pat as he's been wandering about in the pitch black, just having one last check on his beloved cattle. Having an able bodied young man is such a bonus. And that lad will never know " Unemployment " or have time to go into town and hang about on a street corner.

 

Noel owns a .22 rifle. He has no use for it himself ~ especially as I'm effectively the 'Gamekeeper' / Pest Man for the neighbourhood. But he's kept hold of it so his elder son, when Noel considers the time is right and the lad mature enough, may carry it. I told Noel I'd gladly give the lad a little coaching in safe handling. (If I'm to end up sharing this land with another rifleman, I'd be far happier knowing he Should be being as careful as me. I won't shoot him by error of judgement ...)

 

But, yes; It Is a whole different vibe out here. None of the native born people I've ever spoken to exhibit any 'Blood Lust'. They have far more important things to think about than killing creatures which really aren't doing them any direct and quantfiable harm.

 

Embrace and understand that mind set and ye see how it snow balls: No wish to kill for killings sake? So no need to fetch the gun unless there's a Job to do with it. No fetching the gun means only those with a specific purpose in mind are out there, carrying. And, if the only people carrying have a specific task in their minds? Then they'll be too concentrated to start glancing round, before grinning to themselves and pointing the damn gun at anything else, " Just for kicks ".

 

But this is the countryside. And in a part of Eire which even many Irish view as " Medieval ". Like I say; In the big cities we hear of knifings, shootings, 'Gangs' wiping each other out. The whole shebang. But those cities, with their frustrated, stressed out populations, all crammed in on top of one another, are another world entirely. And they act like it.

 

I don't have an answer, mate. I don't know if there is one now. World's going fast to rat shit. All this crap we're talking about here is symptomatic of that. Not much the vastest majority of individuals can do for themselves now. And the politicians know the score and are intent only on empowering themselves so that they become one of those damn few individuals who Can help themselves. Just don't expect them to spend their precious time doing jack for 'You'. That ain't gonna happen

i'm with you on the "medieval" front.......we get the same here.....tell people where you live and they say shit like " have you electricity yet"..........they dont see the REAL world.

 

everything in my world has a purpose ...a means to an end.

 

weather that be working, hunting , fishing etc.

 

the sooner everybody else gets in the REAL world the better.

Unfortunately its the arseholes that waste it for everyone we had a fatal shooting of a two year old kid up here last year I think it was. This dickhead shot the kid from his window and was shooting at the ambulance crew when they got called out. Never thought I'd say this but there needs to be a system put in place where people like that cant get their hands on an air rifle. If it means a certificate similar to the 1 for a shotgun so be it. To many irresponsible people get their hands on these guns, time something was done. The system ditch spoke about sounds good to me.
