Just got back from a weekend away and my variation for a .223 has come!!

Really chuffed as its only been a week, the police round here really are an efficient bunch.

Cheers ss.

It says the .22rf shall be used for shooting vermin and ground game on ranges or land ove rwhich the holder has lawful authority to shoot.

The 223 shall be used for shooting fox and for zeroing on ranges or ove rland where holder has lawful authority to shoot.

No mention of the chief officer etc.

Only downside i can see is that the 223 can be used JUST for foxes. am i correct?

Yes there pretty good trappa, they normally give you an open license no problem..

cheers ian. your right they seem a good group at cleveland, especially after reading about some of the forces on here.

I didnt specifically ask for an open so it was a nice surprise. I did need it mind as i shoot all over on farms.

Although your ticket says just the foxes, I spoke to my firearms dept and asked for vermin too, they said not to worry - "we don't bother with everything - for example you can shoot foxes with your .22 but we don't put it on there"

I don't worry too much about that - so long as the rest of it's legal I don't see the harm. Deer and birds are the only creatures you need to worry about because they have rules and regs - rabbits and vermin are pretty much shoot on sight in the eyes of the law so it's not a massive issue.

cheers mr L. I do want to stay on the right side of the law, and most other vermin get taken pretty well with the rimmy.

Like i said, it is a fox rifle im after, but if im out and drop one with time spare and i only have that one on me, i guess it would do no harm to take a couple of rabbits too!

I must admit I tend to shoot rabbits with my 223 all the time - just a bit more expensive and noisy. My choice of whether to take the hmr or 223 is mainly wind dependent but my ticket does say 'fox and vermin' though. Well done on getting an open ticket so soon but it is possible it could be that they just forgot to add the extra conditions. They do make typos. When I first applied for my FAC air rifle, they put it down as 'Air Rifle, .22 r/f'! Could have been an interesting combination! :D I had to get them to change it before my gunshop would let me have the rifle.

Have fun!
