Geoff.C 0
Picardy, was the kennel name chosen by a chap named Baldwin. This was a famous kennel for producing German Shepherd Dogs, and started out about 1920. They continued through the 1940's and I have seen them mentioned in the very early 1960's, but think they stopped about then. My "career" with the GSD started about 1971 to the mid 1980's, I have not shown one since then. I am fairly certain that the only Picardy dogs I have seen, were book pictures. They were typically, the old English "type" of dog, very tall, long legged and lacking depth of body compared to a modern dog. The Picardy dogs are mentioned a lot in the Malcolm Willis book "The German shepherd dog, it's history and genetics". Borrow a copy if you can. That's about all I can tell you, off the top of my head. Several Picardy pictures too hand, but the scanner is kaput!! Quote Link to post

juckler123 707
Theres a couple in our village and they seem quite laid back probably as they are not from working stock id love to see a first cross to a greyhound not as hyper as the borders and beardies and as they are much larger and better built id have thought there would be little or no litter wastage. last week i thought i saw a woman with another one without the pricked ears and boy could it work i asked her about it and it turned out to be a russian terrier and was of simmilar build and looks but had a lot more about it full of energy and very responsive to commands not a breed id ever seen before. Neal 1,888
I'm not 100% certain but I think that the Russian terrier that somebody mentioned above is a breed created to work with the police etc and that one of the breeds used to create it is our very own one and only Airedale. adeyhawk1970 0
I'm not 100% certain but I think that the Russian terrier that somebody mentioned above is a breed created to work with the police etc and that one of the breeds used to create it is our very own one and only Airedale. Russian terriers were created by the Russian army to be watchdogs.I think its a mix between giant schnauzer/rottweiller/newfoundland and airedale.Saw some at crufts this year 30 inchs at the shoulder and weighing about 140lb.Might be a bit big for crossing with a greyhound Quote Link to post
