best beginners terrier

i am thinking of getting a terrier for a bit of ratting and to hopefully bush along side my lurcher what would you say in your opinion is the best dog breed or cross to use

i.e easy to train

works along side other dogs and so on

russells got very good noses they make decent little bushers

if you are only starting of at terriers get youself a russell easy to start and easier to handle than most others the patts lakelands and fells can be a bit of a handful for the unexperienced

this might sound silly but what size russel would be best short legged or long or does it make no difference

deff a jrt type dog better with straight leg type and not the ones with the queen anne legs!

personly i would go for longer in the leg esspecialy if you intend to do a lot of bushing they will last longer than a short legged one if you are giving them a full days bushing

jrt. but in my humble opionion if its short or long legged wouldnt matter so much as long as its well build and keen.

Plummer,good nose,bidable and versatile,i use mine for bushing,ferreting and ratting in main but have had a little dig with them so a good all round terrier.

i have two jackrussells they love bushing and have had some rats but have loads of energy
