sue 1
i picked up a ferret today from someone who no wanted him ,i put him in a large cage i keep just for these quick needed home ones ,gave him a dish of water a few biscuits and a piece of pigeon ,he never touched the pigeon only ate the biscuits and he just sat there never once had a drink of water ,which we all know biscuits make them thirsty i waited and watched still no drink he sniffed at it ,i took the dogs out and during that time my son had returned home and seen the ferret ,my son didnt see the water dish so he found a water bottle out at attached it to the cage door ,when i returned home he moaned at me for not giving the ferret water and he said the ferret was drinking for about 5 minutes none stop from the water bottle .i said look there a water dish .watching the ferret tonight he wont touch the water dish ive even changed it to a different one but no he still wants to drink out of the bottle ,im just wondering if anyone else has ever had a ferret what will only drink from a bottle Quote Link to post

huntergatherer 0
i have placed the water bowl under the spout from the bottle hopefully he might just start drinking from the bowl ,i hate bottles \hi there, \i have rescued dozens of ferrets in my time and worked many, a lot of the rescues, would commonly only drink form a bottle as it is all they have known, even though bottles are not natural they are more hygenic for their cages but do still need changing and cleaning regularly. I really wouldn't worry. Cheers Kate Quote Link to post
sue 1
im not worried i just find it odd ,especially to think he was drinking from the bottle ages and he was just sat with a bowl of water infront of him ,you would think it would be natural to drink from the bowl if he was thirsty Quote Link to post

All unrelated, various ages and had them all since kits. Cheers, D. Quote Link to post
droid 11
Mine had bowls for 2 years. Tried them with bottles and the took straight to them. They seem happy to use either. Quote Link to post

Guest Ditch_Shitter
my son had returned home and seen the ferret ,my son didnt see the water dish so he found a water bottle out at attached it to the cage door ,when i returned home he moaned at me for not giving the ferret water. Sod the ferret! Your son's the hero of this story! I've no idea how old he is but, how many 'Kids' these days would come home, find their parent had added another to Their lot, grunted and got on with their own business? Good to hear concern for the creatures well being is passing down in ye family Quote Link to post

Glen Loth 1
I often give my ferts a drink beween warrens when working them. All mine drink from bowls in the field, even though they have bottles in their court. I think the weird ferret would learn to drink from a bowl if it was with a bowl drinker after some work, cheers Quote Link to post
Malt 379
my jill will drink from either, but she's got a tendency to paddle in the bowl, then tip it over! Quote Link to post
droid 11
my jill will drink from either, but she's got a tendency to paddle in the bowl, then tip it over! That's why I went on to bottles. They never got the connection between tipping bowls over and getting thirsty.... Quote Link to post
