The lady my Great Grandad married. I've long since had her name, I just hadn't had time to dig that much further into her. So, this bloke turns up, seems she was his Grandmother. Tom and Alice, my GGD and GGM, had several kids. One of them, Tom jr. became my Grandad. One of the girls became this guy, Ken's Mother. Ok? Now, I've long since known that Tom snr. was basicly Irish. But, for those of ye who know how to work out what makes a Dog 5/8 Collie x Grey x Whippet and all that weird shit, perhaps ye'd like to have a go at the latest revelations of my own pedigree? So; Tom, a generation away from the ferry, marries Alice. Guess what? Alice was born in Kent. But her mum and dad were both from bloody Cork! So Alice, whilst british born, was 100% full or Irish blood! I haven't found Tom's mum yet. If She turns out to be Irish? F*ck knows! But his dad was. So, Tom jr. (what? 3/4 Irish blood? At least?) married Kathleen. Kathleens mum was 100% Pav. That's Irish Gypsy. But I'd always assumed her dad was just some Hedge Crawler. Wrong again! I recently found out His surname is Irish!!! No wonder he could put up with Polly, my other maternal GGM, his wife. She was something of a character! See? So now we have Kath - certainly half Irish, again, more likely 3/4 or more so, marrying Tom who's about the same. They produced my own Mother. WTF's that make my old mum??? An Irish and a half went into her, look. My Dad came along and blew the whole deal. Not a trace of Irish in him what so ever. So that takes half of what ever my old dear had back out of me. But, when I sit and consider the wider picture, it's plain to see ~ if ye study my maternal ancestry ~ that I've actually got probably far more Irish genes, from that side, that I ever had british. I'm not trying to make anything of it. I simply find it fasinating, as I do most about Genealogy. But finding out that about Alice really did rock me! It's intriguing stuff, ye know? Ones 'Family Tree'. I have only to look back behind my own parents to find my lot being born in, and dying in, the Work House, before they reached forty. And spending much of their time trundling about in vardo's in between times. There's more bloody " Hawkers " in my Tree than ye'd find in a busy Austringers forum too. Anyway, I won't go on as I could easily go on all bloody night! I just find it all so fasinating. Dead Rellie's are the b*llocks. Even buying copies of their Death Certificates and finding out what they died of is fasinating. ( variations on the surname though) couldn't agree more..............once you start its so bloody addictive. i love exploring the peaks and troughs of the family fortune/misfortune. some relatives started as well to do traders and end up in the work house!!!! ive got as far back as finding out my direct family where border reivers ( nasty buggers) nice one mate but fasinating none the less Edited June 7, 2008 by SEAN3513 Quote Link to post Share on other sites

But that was on my maternal side, theres even more on the Ol Gramps side, would it be right to say that Eire's biggest export to the world is people!
