Rabbithunter 456
. SO A SHORT WALK WITH THE 12 AND A SHOVEL . WAS A VERY UNPLESANT END TO TUEASDAY. Must be a hard thing for any man to do. My first dog blade, had to go, one way or another. My old man offered to use the 12b on him, if i dug the hole. But i told him i couldnt watch him kill my dog. Another option was PTS by a vet, but again i couldnt hold my dog while he was killed. I took the third option, and re-homed him. And as i believe it, he is now living an active & happy life. johnk 0
sorry to hear about your bad luck mate. i had a kerry blue greyhound a few years back totally stock broke then when he was about 4 years old was walking by some sheep one of them was stuck in the fence by her head and started going crazy, next thing i knew the dog was on the sheep.i got a hold of him and gave him a doing never looked at a sheep again and i had him till he was 15, ithink he just got a fright or something and his instinct set him off.i gave him a second chance but i dont live next to any so any time i would have been with him. sorry again johnk snr Quote Link to post
gaz 284
A hard decision to make tomo, but prob the right one as after all it was your dog and that gives you the right to see fit of how these decisions are made, ive had to pts a good working lurcher in his prime about 20 years ago now, snapped at a kid you see and i would not take the chance of it happening again with worse concequencies. He didnt draw blood as such more of a warning snap and snarl to the kid but at the time i thought he had took the kids face off as i was i was unsighted to what happened, the kid went into histerics with the fright he got and i can still see the look in his mothers eyes of shock and horror as she thought as i had of the kids face being chewed up.People i knew tried to convince me not to take him to the vets as this was the first time anything like this had happened and up to now he allways loved kids, this time the kid had prob stood on his toes or something, but my mind was made a second after it happened as i know of the damage a hard type of working dog can do in a short space of time,so i drove to the vet later that day with tears in my eyes with the horrible feeling i had failed the dog but at the same time knowing i was doing the right thing as i knew i couldnt look at myself again in the mirror if i failed to heed the warning of the same thing happening again or worse.
