SportingShooter 0
The noise will only be substantially reduced if you use subsonic ammunition. The noise with standard shells wont be reduced a great deal especially with a 12 bore. The biggest difference you will notice is recoil, it will be reduced a fair amount. The 20 wont be much quieter for the same reasons. Regards SS Quote Link to post
trappa 518
Ive got a .410 hushpower which i use for rabbits and its absolutely fine. I would have no hesitation using it on crows or pigeons if i could get close enough either. With the subsonic carts its pretty quiet too, in comparison to my old .410 using normal carts. Its a shame you wanted to shoot fox with it as the .410 would be suitable for all the above apart from the fox. Quote Link to post

Alex Alex, The 20 bore fired with subsonic cartridges will be very quiet indeed and would make much less noise than a .410 fired with normal cartridges. Eley Hawk make .410 subsonic cartridges in 3" SS Quote Link to post
drut 9
Hi:I have a Hushpower single(Pedretti) 12g & .410 Baikal with 10" Hushpower silencer. 12g only quiet with subs(Eley 32gm 6's) but .410 works well with 2.5" Lyavale Express. 12g seems loud if pointed at woods or building etc. that reflects the sound but OK skyward. .410 I manage to use in our garden without the neighbours noticing. Eley do a subsonic .410 cartridge (have a look on Just Cartridges & Saddlery & Gunroom websites) but am so happy with Lyavales have not looked for anything else. Regards:D.R. Quote Link to post
AJWH 0
thanks you two. i was thinking of getting one, probably single shot to maximise sound reduction because i only have about 7 acres and i near houses and a golf club think ill go with the 20 now because it'll be quieter and offer me a bigger quarry list havnt tried much of Layvale but i usually stick to Hull for clays and Eley for game Cheers for the advice Alex.
