lurchergrrl 1,441
My stepdad could creep up on just about anything in his barefeet. Took some practice, but he learned it from some Natives back home. I'd say it makes sense ... easier to feel your way along with bare feet.
Malt 379
It's quite possible, but I'd have thought it would have taken more than just taking your shoes off! I watched a program a while ago, I'm not sure if it was a program called Tribe, but anyway, this fella went hunting with some forest folk, & they bollocked him, and made him take his boots off as the noise he made in them was scaring everything away for miles around. Guest Ditch_Shitter
I spent a twelvemonth going about bare foot when I was younger. Never really thought about it at the time but, yeah; I guess, given that there's no added flatform beneath ye foot, ye probably do walk in a more natural manner and I'd imagine it would be quieter too. I can't catagorically state that I remember being quieter - I've never been given to clumping around anyway. But I do recall that running across the land was quite a unique experience. lurchergrrl 1,441
I remember my stepdad saying that to be good at it, you had to tune in to your peripheral vision (which actually takes a bit of trying), and something about placing your feet down in a certain way to minimise impact and spread your weight. I wish I'd have paid more attention to him back then.

Guest SJM
I dunno about creeping up on things, but it sure feels nice going barefoot I like walking in long wet grass or on sand with bare feet. Being naked at the same time is pretty damn nice too

skycat 6,173
When I was a kid, and my folks were very poor, we ran barefoot all summer to save shoe leather: its true, your feet get so hard that you can run on literally anything: pretty much like a dog I guess. Guest Ditch_Shitter
Being naked at the same time is pretty damn nice too. Yeppers. I used to like going off into the tall bracken and taking my cut offs off. They were all I wore at the time (summer at least) but had to because there were people about. Tis good though. People may laugh, in their ignorance of the experience, but it does bring out a feeling of rather being feral, doesn't it? Something everyone should experience at some point. It's great
