bullsmilk 2
what the pros do is get an old chainsaw/strimmer fit a pipe to the exhaust stick it down the hole an smoke em out....they run out like fookers Quote Link to post
lakey 1
if it a small set of holes get some oily rag or newspaper and burn it in/ near the holes and woft the smoke down until u get a amoker sorted out. Quote Link to post

Squirrel_Basher 17,100
Mate -All these previous methods are o.k but are likely to scare the pup if its not done much ratting.7 months old is not too late to introduce the pup to a ferret ,and I dont mean to kill it.This is by far the oldest and most efficient method of ratting, and the most satisfying for the hunter.Get the pup used to playing with ferrets and generally used to their shape and ways.People say dont use a finder collar on a ratting ferret but personally I do .Nothing worse than not knowing where the ferret has killed .Use one of the micro collars.this combination is not only quiet but kills more rats IMO as what does not bolt is killed more often than not,by the ferrets.Any rats backing up in dead ends are in front of the ferret and can be located .Using the smoker ,the same backing up occurs but unless the dogs mark it or its deepish we never know about it and after weve moved on to another bury and the smoke clears, Ive seen these rats bolt and get away. Keep the ratting qualities of ferrets alive in this day and age of impatience and incompitance. Quote Link to post
mouse 282
if you have a tap near get the hose down there.that soon gets em movin.smoker good but dogs breath in all the fumes.we just let our dogs dig em or we give them a hand with shovel.good sport and keeps the terriers sharp Quote Link to post

scouse moocher 0
IMO [bANNED TEXT], I think you'd be best setting up a live catch multi trap ( old ones are the best) and then once old rattys in there, Wind ur pup up let him see it and get worked up then either in your garden, or a field let the rat out and let your pup have his kill. Fills em with confidence n its how i started my Russells Then once hes gettin the hang of it get im out mooching some different ground u know holds rats, perhaps with other terriers. Young dogs learn a lot that way and when it comes to ratting there aint many rules, the more enthusiastic the better. All the best with him Sm Ant Quote Link to post
