I must admit i`m with Sue on this one. If i wouldn`t eat it, my ferrets don`t eat it. I`m not having a go but what would have to be wrong with a piece of meat before you said no??

like sue said each to there own.and if it doesn,t sit right with you dont feed them to your ferts.but if youv,e fed them to your ferts when youv,e been low on food and theres been no side effects i dont see the problem feeding them to the ferts again rather than binning them

This thing about getting low on food gets me. I`ve got pheasant carcases, (i took the breasts) rabbits, pigeons etc in my other freezer, my ferrets have never gone short. Get in contact with your local shooters, ask them if you can have their excess kills.

A ferret will come to no harm at all if fed on mixy rabbits, but I dont feed mine them.

I hate the desiese, and (touch wood) it seams to be getting less damaging to the rabbits in my area. So now I bury any mixy rabbits I get straight away.

As we all know that it is spread by the fleas, which will be jumping off the dead infected rabbit on your travels, and possibly spreading the desease to other areas.

Its just what I now do, feck knows if it actually does help any, but hey, im never short of clean, healthy rabbits so im happy!

got to admit, my ferts eat like queens! don't like handling myxi rabbits as it is, never mind butchering them

and before i get loads of replies saying, "chuck em in whole", the reason i butcher them is because then they don't asociate the rabbit with food. i've never had tyo wait more that 10 minutes for my ferrets and i belive its because, yes they kill, but they don't know it's food. bit cleaner as well because it isn't dragged about the court. they just eat the chunks there and then!

all this i dont feed to my animals what i wouldnt eat myself is utter nonsence they are ANIMALS not children ... people need to stop humanising animals and see them for they are a carnivarouse creature that would relish the meat of a mixy rabbit the same as a healthy one .... its like people throwing out meat that is a day out of date rather than give it to their dogs ... oooo couldnt feed that it was out of date idiocy ... they would rather throw perfectly edible meat in the bin that let their dogs enjoy it ..........

as i said each to their own ,my ferrets and dogs are animals to me and they are treated like animals and i wouldnt throw away meat one day or a couple of days out of date or give it to the animals if was ok i would eat it myself and if it didnt look good then it would be in the bin or would you still feed it your animals

throwing mixy rabbits is a complete waste of food . humans can eat mixy rabbits and i bet a few here have without even knowing as bulging eyes is the last symptom.

Also in the wild predators, in the main, only get to eat the old, the sick or the injured thats good old Mother nature's way.

Thus maintaining the prey species vitality.

So IMHO feeding mixy rabbits is natural.

If ferrets or dogs don't catch mixy, what's the problem?
