Sighthound 49
hi hope somebody can help my dog caught some mixy rabbits today wondering if i could feed them to my kits when they are ready for flesh cheers Hope I don't come across as having a go Sue. It's just that the original post (above) asked if he could feed myxy rabbits to his kits. Followed by several answers to 'bin' the rabbits. The answer to his question is that it is ok to feed them to his kits they will not be harmed. If he or you don't like the idea then that as you say is up to you. All the best Quote Link to post

All the best no not at all its just different of opinions happy ferreting i don't realy have this problem but i do feed my ferrets the odd mixy rabbit if i get them as long as its not too bad BUT the reply a wild animal would not turn it down is not an issue as mine and everyone elses ferrets on here are NOT wild animals they live in a hutch / court what ever at your house, a wild animal wouldn't take its self to the vets or get any form of treatment for any injorys / illness does that mean its ok to leave your ferrets be in there hutch / court with injorys and let them sort themselfs out as this is what a wild animal has to do ?? socks 32,253
as i said each to their own ,my ferrets and dogs are animals to me and they are treated like animals and i wouldnt throw away meat one day or a couple of days out of date or give it to the animals if was ok i would eat it myself and if it didnt look good then it would be in the bin or would you still feed it your animals i would quite happily feed my animals meat that i wouldnt eat because THEY ARE ANIMALS AND NOT HUMAN therfore their gut is vastly different from ours and are able to digest meats that we cannot ... thats why they can eat raw chicken and not get ill ............. The one 8,468
As ive stated before if im short of rabbits in the summer time or the myxi's not too bad i will pop a odd one in to the ferrets but what would bother me is the feed value from a myxi rabbit if the ferrets are getting nothing from it why bother ??? mackay 3,330
got to admit, my ferts eat like queens! don't like handling myxi rabbits as it is, never mind butchering themand before i get loads of replies saying, "chuck em in whole", the reason i butcher them is because then they don't asociate the rabbit with food. i've never had tyo wait more that 10 minutes for my ferrets and i belive its because, yes they kill, but they don't know it's food. bit cleaner as well because it isn't dragged about the court. they just eat the chunks there and then! THat's a wind up surely. Quote Link to post

will.f11 24
This thing about getting low on food gets me. I`ve got pheasant carcases, (i took the breasts) rabbits, pigeons etc in my other freezer, my ferrets have never gone short. Get in contact with your local shooters, ask them if you can have their excess kills. basil. n the summer when I am short on rabbit then they have ferret food. this isnt ideal but its fine. They have bits of chicken pork and beef. And I buy them oxliver for 50p a pound! Quote Link to post
