Saw a documentary on whether there's big cats in Britain a while ago, a guy was filming a fox on hill in Devon when a black cat at twice the size of the fox came ito the picture and the fox ran like hell!!! absolutely no doubting what it was. They said that a lot of big cats were released into the wild by owners in the 70's when the keeping of big cats became illegal.

yeah i heard that loads of people let their cats go when it became illegal to keep them, theres been a few 'claimed sightings' around here, a copper seen one once, and theres one known as the 'beast of tonmawr'! apparently they can travel many liles in the night.., and i thought it was illegal to shoot them ?

i watched a documentary on the subject. it is thought that there are such cats roaming the land and they exist due to the dangerous animals act that was past god knows how many years ago. the rich at the time who owned these extravagant creatures couldnt bare to have them killed so they simply released them into the wild. it is thought crocs and all sorts where released but didnt survive for one reason or another.

i actually have heard of one around sunderland point in heyshem. the farmer told me about looking at it in the next field through the scopes on his rimfire. then one day when i was out in the tractor in one of his fields i looked over and saw a large black creature moving at some pace across the field. the hairs on the back of my neck stud up. GRANDAD GRANDAD i yelled he looked in the direction i was pointing in. i will never forget what he said. "its pretty fast for a calf isnt it" slightly red faced i carried on working the field

I saw one about 5 years ago when i was out lamping in magherafelt, I think it was the panther they were trying to catch on the north west coast near Portrush 6 months erlier. I think there are about 15 big cats here in N Ireland that they know about and it only became illegal to keep them without a liscence about 2 years ago.

dissapeird into the undergrowth and its not like he dont know his stuff he is a longtime country man

I have heard a few sightings of this cat up here in northumberland, but I have never personally seen one out and about. So I'm just waiting for the day I see it when I'm out with the rifle! Don't think there is a law on shooting them is there here.

Is there any site/photos/links to view regarding the above???

Several, mate. And, quite frankly, I don't know of any now that aren't run by self importantly dillusional idiots proudly displaying murky snap shots of household moggies. They label themselves as " Experts " and blab to the press. Thus becoming laughing stocks and bringing ridicule to the entire subject.

The more considered evidence is usually just passed around by others who don't associate with such types. And, with a government embargo on any such evidence, it usually stays there too.

'Seek and you shall find.' Only don't expect to find it on Google ;)

Did you ever see that documentary a few years ago with some doughball who claimed to be the uk leading expert on big cats?

He was going round farms telling all of the farmers their sheep had been mauled by panthers and lynx. After an hour of the documentary, the tv company brought in a vet who examined the carcases and was able to say and prove that dogs had killed all these sheep and not big cats and the man was talking a load of brad pitt.

This so called expert also claimed a young lad had his face slashed by a panther however the marks on his face only just broke the skin and caused minor abrasions again the vet laughed at the man.

He had bigged himself up all programme only to look like a total fanny at the end
