Hi all,

will probably spark up a huge debate that has no doubt already occured so short answer and explanation would be great. the thing is, i went shooting(dusk) the other day and shot 3 rabbits. all the pellets hit at around 25 yards, with round head pellets(bordering over the 12f/lb mark) and two just ran off. the other actually did a back flip, and landed on its back!!!!!! 2 seconds later, it got up????!!!?!?!? wghat the hell is going on. obviosly i am aiming for head shots, the fact they ran meens i missed head but i am sure would have hit neck?! as i say i was using round heads? is it true that you get better penetration with pointed, because i have chrono'd round and pointed and i get better f/lb with round? what should i use?!?!

please dont take this the wrong way.....................but are you sure your hitting them in the head??

at 25 yards..........any pellet will kill with a head shot.

medium to heavy weight pellets work best for me, but every gun seems to prefer its own brand!

i use crossman acupells and air arms field...............dead bunnies every time with a head shot....once or twice out to 40yds plus ( not that i do this on regular basis....not good practice, but if you have confidence in your ability and equipment can be done)

re-check your zero and try again mate................good luck and let us know how you get on.

Sounds like you ain`t hitting the sweet spot mate . One in the eye or back of eye will definately drop them. Had it happen to me when i`ve been just that little bit to far out of reach but thought what the feck i`ll have a go hit them back flip like you say but no dropping them. I use H/N field target trophy and happy enough with these. Hit the sweet spot mate and they`ll allway`s go down. FV

what make of pellet are you using ?????????

how do they group 35yards

i had problem like that mine was due to pellet size i think i used aa fields but the size was wrong i needed 5.52 i used 5.51 got not bad groups but had alot of flyers . now im using 5.52 no problems pellet on pellet at 35 yards no flyers

what i should have done is got a sample pack when i got my rifle would have saved time and would have seen how it effects the groupings so much ...

when i was young i went in gun shop he had 3 brands to pick from in 177 +22 now hes got loads loads l.ol showing me age now

I've tried most leading .22 pellets cheap & expensive, pointed & domed and I have to agree with ferretville, H&N Field Target Trophy do the job in my HW100 like no other pellet, sweet as a nut and stops them in teir tracks up to 40 yards.

Coney.

most of the things i have read on pellets say that domed pellets are alot more accurate than pointed ones because pointed ones cn be damaged alot easyer that domed head pellets i use air arms feild and wasps there both good pellets try also useing some of the rws pellets there great pellets and a little cheaper than some of the top brands of pellets

What power is the rifle putting out? Has it been chronographed recently?

13.1?!?! it might be that its not bang on head but i am definately hitting them because you can hear that "wump" noise(hope you know what i meen) but its a definate hit. got some superdome's now so should do the business. will try agian. could be me not quite hitting in the head but maybe neck or torso i supose.

Heres my .22 collection I use with my HW95, most prefered from left to right.

Crosman accupell, Bisley magnums, logun penetrator, H & N hollow points, Predators and RWS superpoint extra.

A "wump" noise is usually associated with a gut shot, so I reckon your aim is off for some reason.
