Yokel Matt 918
A mate has asked me to find an airgun for his friends 12 year old son to cut his teeth on some coney and pigeons. The family is not loaded and doesn't really want to spend more than £100 - 150. Although precharged pnumatics would be great, initial cost and re-charging rule them out. I'm thinking a .177 cal HW85 (my hw77 is too heavy) but seeing loads on GAMO rifles. Do these have enough grunt to take out rabbits or is there a better alternative? Cheers fellas Quote Link to post
SEAN3513 7
given their budget i they'll be lucky to get a decent pcp. presonally i would go for a lightweight springer..................BSA lightning would be a good option. they will learn more about shooting with spring gun aswell.......................a good start before they progress to a pcp. not to familiar with GAMO guns.........but they will probably be ok if the powers good. hope this helps regards sean Quote Link to post
whippeter94 0
Trust me mate leave gamo alone they are pretty sh**t guns.Iv got a bsa meteor with a bsa scope and it is an awesome gun its only 6fp but iv shot pigeons rabbits mice rats with it and its still going but not for sale just yet but if iwas ur mate then go for one of these guns its a spring saftey gun but its worth it. They cost around £130 to about £180 so have a look around for one Quote Link to post
Yokel Matt 918
Thanks for this lads... that what i was thinking re:GAMO. My HW77, while a great gun is far too heavy and difficult to crank for this nipper. BSA is a good call. Cheers Quote Link to post
Malt 379
Modern GAMO's aren't that bad, they're the same company as BSA. I'd look at one of the Weihrauchs, I cant remember which one it was, but there's one at near full power that's suitable (light enough) for a youngster to use. I'll have a look for it later, or maybe someone else will know which one i'm on about. Quote Link to post

Edgar 1
I have an ancient HW 85 that I inherited and its still accurate but quite heavy. There are some junior models in the weihrauch range, I've never used any of them but weihrauchs are usually pretty good. Quote Link to post

The HW99s is a lightweight full power rifle and would be excellent for a youngster, used to have one a while back and it was a very accurate and smooth rifle. Quote Link to post
