hingindoolie 0
Hi all, need help. Just been given a contract to kill what seems like a few thousand rabbits on some playing fields next to a golf course that I already control rabbits on with a 10/22. Problem is that the playing fields are Council property and will only let us use air guns but, the catch is its all at around 100yd+ range. I have never used or owned air so what would you guys recommend. Cheers Hing. Quote Link to post
Big bald beautiful 1,231
rapid 7 at fac levels could do 60-70 but pushing it and wouldnt like to shoot a lot at that range Quote Link to post

dogs-n-natives 1,182
Your fecked, as a 12 ft/lb air rifle will have a range of aroun 40 yards, you would have to get a FAC version air rifle, which would then defeat the purpose of it being air rifle only, as a FAC one would be nearly as or as dangerous as a .22 lr. Could you get at the warrens with ferrets/nets? Is longnetting an option? Have you tried lamping with air gun? the rabbits may not have encountered a lamp before, and on a windy night could prove easy pickings. Quote Link to post

Council dictated no nets, ferrets, gas, poison, bombing only Air guns but over 12f/lbs is not a prob. Can put it on my firearms cert. Council would only care that it was an airgun. Quote Link to post

An air gun thats almost as good as a .22lr would do the biz as the Coucil would be happy. They are only dictating because they can. Longnetting is what we recomended but the local animal welfare plonkers are on the council and they seem to know better than me how to deal with the little varmints. ( varmints being the rabbits and not what should be shot........ Councilors.) Quote Link to post

I have been hunting and stalking for over 30 years and whether or not I am any good is not for a total stranger who knows nothing about me to say. You asked for advice, i gave it, I apolagise if it wasn't the advice you were looking for but your options are very few. I suggest next time you should ask for the advice that you want to hear, rather than what other people deem to be good advice. Quote Link to post
moxy 617
I dont think that that was much of an insult, come on matey calm down, Just a question though? If the council have approached you to offer you a contract then i am correct in thinking that you are a pro pestie? Surely you being a professional and knowing your job, then its down to you to dictate to them what course of action you are going to undertake. I would have said with it being playing fields, that shooting with any sort of rifle would have been way down on your list. Risk assessment??? Quote Link to post
